Well I HAD already posted the pix at the inaug thread. You know it is strange, I never thought of getting the pix thread URL posted.. good idea. I had fun doing that thread & it served partly in some diary form ..with a "few" things tastefully omitted!!!
Had I gone there I would have realized that the California foursome was already in my server & might have been seen by some..
That pix makes me look fat (me & Saddam).. but i complained about that before as I recall... chuckle...
well, I still have NOT had my bath, am hungry & need some wine... will check in later.. I am up with you California people tonight.. and will pay for it tomorrow, no doubt!

He's Always On The Bridge
I will not leave you nor forsake you. Joshua 1:5
|
My friend Ralph had the thrilling experience of going on a short cruise on the aircraft carrier USS Kennedy. He saw jet fighters take off, land, and demonstrate maneuvers. He was told that whenever the planes are taking off or landingdangerous operationsthe captain watches from the bridge. Even if the planes are flying continually, he stays on the bridge, cat-napping between runs if necessary. So each time a pilot takes off or lands on the deck, he knows that his captain is always on duty.
In today's Scripture reading, when it was time for Joshua to take over as leader of Israel, he needed reassurance that God would be with him as He had been with Moses. The Israelites knew that Moses had divine direction during their wilderness journey because God led them by a pillar of fire and a cloud. But what about Joshua? God promised him, "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you" (Joshua 1:5). Joshua could lead Israel with the absolute confidence that God was always watching over him. Wherever we are, whatever bold endeavor we are involved in, or whatever spiritual battle we may face, we have the confidence that God is with us. What's more, He guides, protects, and leads us. He's always on the bridge! Dave Egner

The Christian finds safety not in the absence of danger but in the presence of God.

Celebrating Flag Day

Barbara Frietchie
Up from the meadows rich with corn,
Clear in the cool September morn,
The clustered spires of Frederick stand
Green-walled by the hills of Maryland.
Round about them orchards sweep,
Apple and peach tree fruited deep,
Fair as the garden of the Lord
To the eyes of the famished rebel horde,
On that pleasant morn of early fall
When Lee marched over the mountain wall;
Over the mountains winding down,
Horse and foot, into Frederick town.
Forty flags with their silver stars
Forty flag with their crimson bars,
Flapped in the morning wind; the sun
Of noon looked down, and saw not one.
Up rose old Barbara Frietchie then,
Bowed with her fourscore years and ten;
Bravest of all in Frederick town,
She took up the flag the men hauled down;
In her attic window the staff she set,
To show that one heart was loyal yet.
Up the street came the rebel tread,
Stonewall Jackson riding ahead.
Under his slouched hat left and right
He glanced; the old flag met his sight.
"Halt!" - the dust-brown ranks stood fast.
"Fire!" - out blazed the rifle-blast.
It shivered the window, pane and sash;
It rent the banner with seam and gash.
Quick, as it fell, from the broken staff
Dame Barbara snatched the silken scarf.
She leaned far out on the window-sill,
And shook it forth with a royal will.
"Shoot, if you must, this old gray head,
But spare your country's flag," she said.
A shade of sadness, a blush of shame,
Over the face of the leader came;
The nobler nature within him stirred
To life at that woman's deed and word;
"Who touches a hair of yon gray head
Dies like a dog! March on!" he said.
All day long through Frederick street
Sounded the tread of marching feet;
All day long that free flag tost
Over the heads of the rebel host.
Ever its torn folds rose and fell
On the loyal winds that loved it well;
And through the hill-gaps sunset light
Shone over it with a warm good-night.
Barbara Frietchie's work is o'er,
And the Rebel rides on his raids no more.
Honor to her! and let a tear
Fall, for her sake, on Stonewall's bier.
Over Barbara Frietchie's grave,
Flag of Freedom and Union, wave!
Peace and order and beauty draw
Round thy symbol of light and law;
And ever the stars above look down
On thy stars below in Frederick town!

His Good Time
Theres something rather inviting here,
If some work doesnt scare you away.
A lot of us think that running a farm,
Is just a big place we can play.
But the work begins before sunrise,
When the coffee is still not awake,
And it doesnt let off til you sit in the shade,
And sharpen your tools on your break.
Then you finish your work with the last fading rays,
And you put things away in the dark.
The sound of an ouch is the signal you've found,
That wheelbarrow you forgot to park.
I dont want to imply that there is no reward,
You can eat all you want that youve grown.
And there's nothing that adds to the flavor more,
Than to know its from seeds that youve sewn.
And youve watched your partner helping,
And youve thanked Him with all of your heart.
For He sent all the rain, and the sun in its time,
And you know that Hes earned a big part.
Its ironic, you note from your window,
As He irrigates crops far and near.
You get your results by hard work every day,
While He takes His good time to appear.

Good morning, Mayor.
Thank you for bringing us coffee and food for our soul.
Do you have any plans for Flag Day? I'm looking thru my pictures for something to post here and at the Finest. I took pictures of the flag at a Veterans' cemetary on Memorial day.

I intended to ping you to post number 111.
I was too busy trying in vain to remove the wide black border at the bottom. :(

I am the Flag
I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up ... and see me.
I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident.
I am arrogant.
I am proud.
When I am flown with my fellow banners,
my head is a little higher,
my colors a little truer.
I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshiped -- I am saluted.
I am loved -- I am revered.
I am respected -- and I am feared.
I have fought in every battle of every war
for more then 200 years.
I was flown at Valley Forge,
Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appamatox.
I was there at San Juan Hill,
the trenches of France,
in the Argonne Forest,
Anzio, Rome, and the beaches of Normandy.
Guam, Okinawa, Korea and
KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me.
I was there.
I led my troops.
I was dirty, battle-worn and tired,
but my soldiers cheered me
And I was proud.
I have been burned, torn and trampled
on the streets of countries I have helped set free.
It does not hurt, for I am invincible.
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn
and trampled on the streets of my country.
And when it's by those whom I've served in battle -- it hurts.
But I shall overcome -- for I am strong.
I have slipped the bonds of Earth
and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space
from my vantage point on the moon.
I have borne silent witness
to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages
for my wounded comrades on the battlefield,
When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier,
Or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent
at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,
I am proud.
My name is 'Old Glory'!
Long may I wave
o'er the land of the free
and the home of the brave.
