I know how that is...there have been times when our little $15 deductable was more than I could spend, so I know what you mean.
Well, drink lots of fluids but monitor your output too...if you're drinking lots but not "going" (or perspiring) lots, that's a bad sign and you don't want to continue drinking lots.
Also, mind those high salt foods...processed meats and such. They're high in sodium and that can cause you to retain.
Hmmm... headaches last week, now you're retaining water... sure you're not pregnant?
I'm really fairly sure I'm not... and this particular retaining water issue has been going on some number of months, through many cycles.
It does sound, however, like you've had alterations in your normal state of health. Those are always red flags, even if it's just your body can't process the sodium it used to could...
The do bear watching.
I gotta go to the store, I'm outta milk!
Honestly, the causes of pitting edema (I didn't know how to look it up before you named it) are all pretty scary or depressing, depending on which emotion I decide to apply to it. BUT, I don't have any of the ~other~ symptoms of any of the major organ failures they discuss. I don't think I have congestive heart failure, liver, or kidney disease, necessarily.
Rolling around in the back of my mind though are two things... and part of my thinks I shouldn't be posting all this in a public forum, but what the heck...
Liver cancer killed my mom and her brother. But not this young, it came later.... twenty years from now. And it wasn't cirrohsis, it was cancer. BUT, the women in my family did have huge ankles late in life. Moreso my grandma and another aunt (the one that ~hasn't~ gotten cancer) than my mom, though. Mom didn't really get swollen ankles ever. When her liver failed, her retention was all abdominal.
Other things I'm thinking about too, that I don't feel like I am at liberty to discuss, but I want Ramius to see.
Edema (pitting and non-pitting edema) information at MedicineNet.com
I don't see how bear watching is going to help.
Well, a good physical would at least ease your mind...it really may be something that you can easily fix!
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, for what it's worth...and keep me posted if you go to the doc. I'm rusty as a nurse, but I'll do the best I can to give you info or answer any questions.
PS: They put the most dreadful reasons for pitting edema online, so don't heed it much. Kidney failure could simply mean your kidney is failing to filter sodium like it did when you were a younger lass. My kidneys fail to do the job pretty frequently, like after a massive bowl of popcorn. Can't even budge my normally loose wedding ring.
Heh...thanks for fixin' my typo.
Thank you everyone, so much, for your kind birthday wishes! Both my children had flown in to spend a couple days at home, so we've been visiting and I haven't been near the computer in several days, weirdly! so please accept my apologies for not responding until now -
Still way behind on posts.
Anyway, all this has reminded me of what I said once before, that the Hobbit Hole has been a bright spot in my life, even though my life has been good so far. It's nice to belong to our little online community, especially as so many of us have also had the opportunity to meet in RL. It's like belonging to a private club, IMO.
We have yet more family now visiting for the weekend of the 4th, so I'll likely be missing again for a few days.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY, Everyone!
Happy fourth to you too Sam! I figured you must have been out traveling, that you wouldn't go without visiting otherwise!
What kind of doctor should I try to see? I don't have a doctor. The one I saw last year was in the HMO (Group Health) that I'm no longer in. So I'd be starting from scratch.
D'oh! Forgot you in the ping!

God bless them. The Blackhawk is a cool chopper.
You probably should go see an internal medicine doc. They're like a general practitioner, but they only see adults...general practitioners are like the old family practice doctors...they see adults, kids, deliver babies, all that stuff.
Internal Medicine physicians see only adults and deal with adult illnesses and don't mess around with things like "well-baby" appointments and school physicals.
Finally got some pics...I actually think they saw me taking pictures and made that last circle for me just so I could.
He could probably take care of it...he could run basic bloodwork, you know? They do prescribe stuff like that.
I think you should have brought it up...at least you can talk about it now, even if it doesn't help with the decision. Nothing good about having it bottled up, I can tell ya.
Check your email. (Not FReepmail)
And get a new message on your answering machine. A Generic message from a generic voice sucks.
If you want me to, I will record one for you with my mellifluous voice.
