The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Reinforces, though, having been looking for roman number tables... that the Romans never bothered to really count very large numbers of things.

Nope, they pretty figured a thousand of anything was more than anybody would want to count.

Maybe they were right.

Neat - so we'll only have to deal with 5000 Super Bowls?

Gooooooood morning!

We have the organization picnic today. Everyone's bringing their families - so there'll be urchins running all over our 'secure' environment today. Forcast is for upper 80s, humidity, and a chance for a thunderstorm. And then I gotta go be social on top of all of that.

The first urchin ( with mom in tow) has arrived. She's a cutie - but having them around means I can't do any work.

Shucks.

We have "Kids Day on the Farm" sometime next month. They bus kids in and show 'em the test plots and stuff. The kids don't make it into the labs. We had to stuff a bunch of gift bags for 'em yesterday.

Morning everyone.

Lots to do today. The service for my grandfather is tonight. *sigh* It's exhausting, but we're all relieved that he's at peace and resting.

I'm tired of being sad, so I wanted to pop in and say...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAM CREE!

Hi, I heard about your organization through a friend and I had to check it out. I'm currently serving in an infantry unit in central baghdad. I can't even begin the tell you how wonderfull your idea is. Everyone here gets care packages with a bunch of stuff that we already have or won't use. But the idea of giving away a knife, something that EVERYONE will instantly love and appreciate is so awesome. I would like to request some knives if I may. The BK3 tactool, BK3 companion, and CRKT 5700 would be great. I know a few guys in my company that aren't doing to great on money and can't afford a good knife that would love some of these. Whatever you could send would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time and keep up the good work!

Gonna post some pictures of thenuggets here in a while...heretofor known as "Chunk-Style 1 and 2".

They look like white basketballs. Dinner is served in about 3 weeks.

Heh!

I just put them in their tractor, out under the shade tree. At night they come in to the porch and get back into their big rubbermaid tote. It's dim, but they can still find the food. A lot of meat chicken raisers keep them in blaring light 24 hours a day so they eat more, but I prefer the dim light...they do seem to sleep a bit and that's gotta be good for 'em.

I must say, and it may not be much to anyone else, but my venta-hood looks fantastic underneath where the lights are. Spotless.
