Poetry Day
One might assume that on poetry day,
A guy like me would have something to say,
And that it would rhyme, and sound very nice,
And it would be filled with some prudent advice.
Ill have to admit that the corniest prose,
Tends to look more impressive when lined up in rows.
And it makes it more memorable most of the time,
To have fancy words ending up in a rhyme.
But the basic idea is stuff that I heard,
Except I would put in a different word.
And I twist it around to an alternate view,
So that many assume it is something brand new.
But the words that I use are all words that you know,
I dont make up new ones just because they fit so.
I just stick to the rules and dont play fast and loose,
I dont want to be known as the new Dr. Seuss.

From Poem of Joys.
Walt Whitman (1819 - 1892)
O TO make the most jubilant poem!
Even to set off these, and merge with these, the carols of Death.
O full of music! full of manhood, womanhood, infancy!
Full of common employments! full of grain and trees.
O for the voices of animals! O for the swiftness and balance of fishes!
O for the dropping of rain-drops in a poem!
O for the sunshine, and motion of waves in a poem.
O the joy of my spirit! it is uncaged! it darts like lightning!
It is not enough to have this globe, or a certain time
I will have thousands of globes, and all time.
Happy Birthday, Walt!
Walt Whitman was born on May 31, 1819, on the West Hills of Long Island, New York.

Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics:
* 29 have been accused of spousal abuse
* 7 have been arrested for fraud
* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks
* 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
* 3 have done time for assault
* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting
* 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
* 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year...
Can you guess which organization this is?
Give up yet?
It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group
that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.
I cannot verify this ...... it arrived in my mailbox today. :)

God Said That
You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. -Psalm 23:4
|
When 8-year-old Jacob visited his Grampa in the hospital, he came with his own custom-made "Get Well" card. It was an 81/2" x 11" piece of stiff white paper folded in half. On the front he had written, "Hope you feel better soon." On the inside, in large block letters, was this message:
I will be with you wherever you go. There was no Scripture reference, so Jacob added these words: "God said that." He wanted to be sure I didn't expect him to be at my side during my entire hospital stay. That added note conveyed an unintended and deeper truth that brought a smile to my face and comfort to my heart. A hospital can be a lonely place. It's a world of unfamiliar faces, first-time medical procedures, and uncertain diagnoses. But it's in just such a setting that God can quiet an anxious heart and give assurance that He'll go with you down every hall, through every new door, into any unknown future-yes, even through "the valley of the shadow of death" (Psalm 23:4). Maybe you have had an unexpected setback or loss. Your future is unknown. Trusting Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you can be sure of this: He will go with you wherever you go. You can believe it. God said that! -Dennis De Haan
Whenever I feel that Christ is near, All cares and sorrows flee; He is my strength, my hope, my life, He's all in all to me. -Lewis
No danger can come so near the Christian that God is not nearer.

Breaking news on Clean Air Day: Clear skies end global dimming --
Earth's air is cleaner, but this may worsen the greenhouse effect.
Our planet's air has cleared up in the past decade or two, allowing more sunshine to reach the ground, say two studies in
Science this week.
Reductions in industrial emissions in many countries, along with the use of particulate filters for car exhausts and smoke stacks, seem to have reduced the amount of dirt in the atmosphere and made the sky more transparent.
That sounds like very good news. But the researchers say that more solar energy arriving on the ground will also make the surface warmer, and this may add to the problems of global warming. More sunlight will also have knock-on effects on cloud cover, winds, rainfall and air temperature that are difficult to predict.
The results suggest that a downward trend in the amount of sunlight reaching the surface, which has been observed since measurements began in the late 1950s, is now over.
The researchers argue that this trend, commonly called 'global dimming', reversed more than a decade ago, probably following the collapse of communist economies and the consequent decrease in industrial pollutants.
The widespread brightening has remained unnoticed until now simply because there wasn't enough data for a statistically significant analysis, says Martin Wild, an atmospheric scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and an author on one of the reports.
COMMENT: All right, already. You environmentalists won on global warming. Now please go back to using deodorants, and don't foul our cleaner air anymore.

OH NO ..... It must be Clean Air Day! Are you telling me that the enviro-nazis were right once? Time for them to go back to sitting in trees.
Good morning, OESY. Hope your day is great.

Knot-hole
Im peeping through a knot-hole, at a fine construction site,
And I hope whoevers in charge makes double sure they get it right.
Its hard to tell if somethings going up or coming down,
But I like the busy action in my favorite part of town.
Im standing here and munching on the lunch I brought along,
I know if it were up to me it all would end up wrong.
Its really fascinating with the bustle and confusion,
Id probably build it upside down, from an optical illusion.
I have great faith the Builder will get things done just fine.
For Someone had to plan it all, and draw each careful line,
And folks will go into the thing without a thought or care,
That it wasnt very long ago this place was only air.
My hour will be over while the building still goes on,
And the work will still continue whether I am here at dawn.
I can only get a glimpse of what this whole thing is about.
And Ill let my faith assure me that its going to work out.
