A Welcome Way To Warn
The little red schoolhouse comes alive in early morn,
The schoolhouse bell clangs cheerfully as a welcome way to warn,
Please gather in your places and direct your eyes up here.
Well pledge and say a prayer and then well have a song of cheer.
A simple time of innocence when people spoke of God,
And anyone who disagreed just seemed so very odd.
We thought they were just crazy, plainly touched up in the head.
Our love of country and respect for law were like our daily bread.
The doctor knew our names and he knew where we were living,
And the preacher could be counted on when sins would need forgiving.
Our heroes were the soldiers who were seen on every square,
Our policemen and our firemen always smiled to show they care.
Perhaps weve lost this innocence, or grown a thicker skin,
But I believe another voice has slowly drifted in.
There is a storm of doubt which now is like a burning flame,
And ashes of our former dreams say weve already lost the game.
Bright smiles remain on faces of the children at this hour,
As we struggle to preserve the hope that gives to them the power.
Let us lift our eyes to Heaven where the clouds are fleeting shapes,
And draw down the strength of will we need before it all escapes.

Money Matters
No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. -Luke 16:13
|
Godfrey Davis, who wrote a biography of the Duke of Wellington, said, "I found an old account ledger that showed how the Duke spent his money. It was a far better clue to what he thought was really important than the reading of his letters or speeches."
How we handle money reveals much about our priorities. That's why Jesus often talked about money. One-sixth of the Gospels' content, including one out of every three parables, touches on stewardship. Jesus wasn't a fundraiser. He dealt with money matters because money matters. For some of us, though, it matters too much. Jesus warned that we can become slaves to money. We may not think that money means more to us than God does. But Jesus did not say we must serve God more than we serve money. The issue isn't what occupies first place in our life, but whether we serve money at all. Pastor and author George Buttrick said, "Of all the masters the soul can choose, there are at last only two-God and money. All choices, however small, however the alternatives may be disguised, are but variants of this choice." Does your checkbook show that Jesus is the Master in your life? -Haddon Robinson
If we pursue mere earthly gain, We choose a path that ends in pain; But joy and peace are in our soul When we pursue a heavenly goal. -D. De Haan
For a quick check on your heart, check out your checkbook.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Ingredients:
2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
2 tablespoons shortening (do not use butter, margarine, spread or oil)*
Fresh strawberries with stems, rinsed and patted dry
Directions:
1. Cover tray with wax paper.
2. Place chocolate chips and shortening in medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH (100%) 1-1/2 minutes or just until chips are melted and mixture is smooth when stirred; cool slightly.
3. Holding strawberry by top, dip 2/3 of each berry into chocolate mixture; shake gently to remove excess. Place on prepared tray.
4. Refrigerate until coating is firm, about 30 minutes. Store, covered, in refrigerator. Coats about 5 dozen small strawberries. (About 1 cup coating)
*Butter, margarine and spreads contain water which may prevent chocolate from melting properly; oil may prevent chocolate from forming a coating.

Strawberries . . .
A farmer was driving along the road with a load of fertilizer. Little
Christopher, playing in front of his house, saw him and called out. . .
"What've you got in your truck?"
"Fertilizer," the farmer replied.
"What are you going to do with it?" asked Chris
"Put it on strawberries," answered the farmer.
"You ought to live here," Chris advised him. . .
. . . . . "We put sugar and cream on ours."

NOTE: Thanks for the greetings, but what ignominy
to be born on "Pick Strawberries Day". LOL!

Strawberry Fields Forever
Lennon/McCartney

Let me take you down
cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever
Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see
It's getting hard to be someone
but it all works out
It doesn't matter much to me
Let me take you down
cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever
No one I think is in my tree
I mean it must be high or low
That is you can't, you know, tune in
but it's all right
That is I think it's not too bad
Let me take you down
cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever
Always know sometimes think it's me
But you know I know when it's a dream
I think I know I mean, ah yes
but it's all wrong
that is I think I disagree
Let me take you down
cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever
Strawberry fields forever
strawberry fields forever

Good morning. Hope everyone has some interesting plans for the weekend. Right now mine are "flexible" with several good options ... depending on weather.
YUMMY recipe Amy. My problem is that the strawberries would all get eaten & the chocolate lapped up before the ingredients were assembled for the showcased presentation.
Bad Oliver!
Gloomy, cold & wet here. WE are several weeks away from the fresh, u-pick-um strawberries here. We have been enjoying the ones imported from Fla/Calif for a few months..
