Gas Grill vs Charcoal Grill

We've been looking to possibly replace our charcoal grill with a gas grill.

The only thing that is holding my husband back is possibly not getting that same charcoal/grill flavor that you would get when cooking over charcoal.

Can anyone tell me if there is any way you can achieve this type flavor when cooking on a gas grill.

Gas grills are easier, charcoal tastes better.

There IS no substitute for real charcoal grilling. Period.

Wood or coals are the best.

Well Reid and Pelosi would be better if grilled on hot gas, but Howard dean should be slow roasted over coals. IMHO

So in other words, since my kids will not eat a burger cooked in a frying pan, they will not like the taste when cooked on a gas grill.

Isn't there some type of liquid smoke you can get to make it taste like it has been charcoaled?

Absolutely. Charcoal (oak if you can get it--it burns hotter) grilling is much better than gas.

Well it would probably taste better from a gas grill than from a frying pan, you'll still get some of that flame scorching, it's not going to be as good as on charcoal.

Yes, but liquid carcinogens tend to come back and haunt you.

What kind of charcoal grill do you have, and what is the problem with it? Maybe you just need a better charcoal grill.

We barbequed on Monday afternoon with friends who normally use gas. They said our charcoal grill puts out tastier food whether it's meet, vegetables or whatever. Then again, maybe we're just better at preparing our food. :-)

It may just depend on what you want. Gas is definitely easier and quicker, but you might be missing out on flavor. We know of no way to get the charcoal flavor out of gas grills and we aren't switching to gas anytime soon, if ever.

We have a kettle (?) type Weber grill but it is falling apart. We saw some nice gas grills in Sears today on sale and thought they looked really nice.

If you get a gas grill, get a Weber. They have a set of wide metal "flavor" bars just beneath the grill itself. As your meat cooks, drippings hit these bars and create smoke thus adding to the flavor. It's the best system I know of for gas grills.

Agreed. Best grilling for me was when I had a smoker/grill. You bought mesquite wood blockes which added flavor. Smoking a turkey breast, roast or any meat was enhanced when you marinated the meat and then smoked it with a water pan which also had a beer or bourbon based smoking sauce.

I use gas grill now but it just isn't as good. I am in the market for a new gas grill but I've noticed that they no longer have the ceramic briquets that help to provide an even heat so now your back to having to watch to insure that you don't have a gas induced grease fire which can ruin your meat and your day if the deck catches on fire!!!

Buy buffalo steaks,buy another bottle of wine while buying said buffalo steaks,buy a hot tub;)
