Love to see a good adaptation of Hammer's Slammers...
The Regiment was a great story, but a PC Hollywood would goon that the hell up...

Tiger, Tiger is an alternate title for The Stars, My Destination by Alfred Bester. However, since you can't copyright a title, it could also be the title of another SF or fantasy work.
Bester also wrote another classic work, The Demolished Man.

Which is why Drake's keeping a close rein on the property. :)

The last name of the author David Drake. He literally is *the* best hard sf/mil sf writer out there, as many FReepers have attested.
The only problem with his writing is that it's *too* real sometimes...

I think John Ringo's better, but I don't like "big boat" mil sf. I like fighter pilot/combat suit stuff.
Connie Willis' "Doomsday Book" would make a great miniseries. Or "To Say Nothing of the Dog" as a movie. She writes so vividly, I can "see" the sets and characters already.
Niven's "Flatlander" stories could make a great movie a la "Minority Report".

Blue World, by Jack Vance. Also, The Face.
EarthSea Trilogy (skip the 4th one), by Ursula LeGuin.

I have to agree with you. As a kid, I liked Alexander Key's books, but seeing the distortion they made of Escape to Witch Mountain, I'd rather 'they' leave The Forgotten Door and The Golden Enemy alone.

Drake's "Hammer's Slammers" is infantry and armor combat, not "big boat" combat.
Besides, you need to read the series or Colonel Hammer will be VERY angry!

Oh definitely...her jump to the Oldtime...and the Queens' battle...and Ruth...hatching...first flight...returning the egg...and of course...
THREADFALL!!!
I heard last year there's supposed to be a possible film of Moreta sometime. Even Orlith and noble Holth still will never match Ramoth, but I could live with it being that book, long as it's well done and they get the dragons right.

I like fighter pilot/combat suit stuff. then you need to read John Steakley's Armor...
Drake is very realistic (IMHO) compared to Ringo... as spktyr stated, "almost too real"... puts the sights sounds and smells back in my head...

Keith Laumer's "Retief" stories would be a great tv show... Agreed, but could they keep from liberaling it up, that's the question.

No comments, those who have read these know why.

Making movies from books is admitting that you are creatively and intellectually bankrupt. So the Passion of Christ is proof of that?
