Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying taxes. But until the state of Texas ejects every illegal mooching off of my hard work fromm this state and send them back to where they came from I'm going to be very negative to them raising more money from me to give away to people I should not be supporting.

I predict...some form of this "rallying call"...will become prevalent across the nation.

The congresscritters of all stripes better get on the "right" side of this too......

FRegards,

The bill is revenue neutral (supposedly). Property tax relief and franchise tax elimination in exchange for some new business taxes.

The new "business" tax is an income tax. An let a former resident of Connecticut during the Weicker administration tell you that one a new income tax is imposed, no matter how small at first, it opens the door to a whole can of worms. Right now, the property tax is capped at 2.7 percent. They can't milk much more out of it w/o pissing people off. That is why they want to lower propertty taxes and shift it to taxes more easily hidden and, thus, more easily raised.

To eliminate the principal of the franchise tax which is very rough on small businesses. The payroll tax will provide the same revenue, with the burden placed more on large businesses.

I would prefer to have business taxes eliminated altogether, since they are just passed on to consumers or taken away from employees, but property tax relief is more important right now.

(You can buy a yellow pair at Walmart for 88 cents.)

Sounds like ol' Darrell spends a little time shopping the ladies department...... lol.

I'm sure you agree that taxing certain behavior discourages it. Why then, would we want to place a tax on jobs?

That property tax decrease is not going to make much of a difference when businesses start passing their tax increases along to the consumer.

But at least all consumers will be paying regardless of whether they own property or not..... The property owners have been taken to the cleaners long enough.

If you don't cut the taxes then at least spread them such that more people pay a share.

I guess you can't see the big picture so just stay in "your little property tax world" 'cause I don't have the time or interest to try and explain it to anymore.

That's not an absolute. Taxing necessities does not discourage that behavior. A tax on breathing for example would not cause mass asphyxiation.

I'm not for a payroll tax, I'm for property tax relief, and I'm willing to fight the battles one at a time.

Property taxes are eating my lunch. Consumption taxes aren't going to hurt me. Business taxes are a fight for another day.

Have you done the math and figured out how long your property taxes are going to be "reduced"?

This was no solution. Plank 4 of the state party platform spelled out the policy republican's were supposted to be running on. Sadly most of them don't feel like they are beholden to those that provided them with money, staff and votes.

So you want to create a new tax so you can later fight to eliminate it? Sounds like a winning plan.

"Make sure there is a skid mark?"

Well, the petitioners might not sign it then....

If it means reducing property taxes today, yes.

I can't find a "sunset" provision in HB3, so I'm not sure what you mean. The tax rate is being capped.

Just so everyone understands where you're coming from - would you support a 1.1% income tax, instead of a "business" tax, if it meant reducing property taxes today.

No. We don't have an income tax. We already have a business tax called the franchise tax, they are just changing the cricumstances (closing loopholes) under which they collect it.

I like this idea

Maybe we can do this on a National Level to get our representatives in the Senate to live up to their Constitutional Duties and Confirm in a straight up vote, GWB's Judicial Noms.
