Sweden seeks end to masculinity and femininity.

So is this what liberal feminists want in the USA? Personally, this sounds like something from 1984 or Brave New World. What gives a government the right to identify and then target for extinction certain gender-specific roles? Talk about going to the core of human psychology.

I have heard that the government officials of Sweden are the least educated in all of Europe -- can you back that up?

Also, my interest in this is because my wife and children are Swedish. You would not believe how many of her friends from high school days wound up marrying Americans. I'll note, these are the friends who stayed married -- seems Swedes do far less well at marriage nowadays than Americans but the statistics kinda hide the fact since so many couples are "sambos" (sort of a Swedish term for domestic partner).

You both sound like you might be interested in getting on our Swedish Ping List (for letting people know when a Sweden-related thread appears here on FR).

So which one of you two is going to let me know first and thus become Pingee #50 on our list?

This will work fine, 'cause I think muslim males are supposed to pee sitting down, lest they dribble on their toes, which would be fatwashees, or something like that.

Swedish ping list? I can barely figure out the posting of a new thread thing yet. You'll have to explain it.

I'll check back later. Hej då!

Don't worry about posting mistakes; we all have made them.

The "ping list" is those who wish to be alerted in case a news story comes up on Free Republic, that they may wish to see.

Charles Henrickson runs the "Swedish ping list," which hollers at everyone interested in Sweden, whenever something shows up on Free Republic about Sweden.

There are hundreds of "ping lists" here, on all sorts of subjects, from Sweden to electric trains to numismatics to pro-life news to economics to Eastern Europe; just about any subject.

Swedish ping list? . . . You'll have to explain it.

It's a list of Free Republic folks--we're up to 49 now--who have an interest in Sweden. Some live in Sweden, some live in the US. When a Sweden-related thread appears here on FR, I (it could be any of the list members, really) send out a "ping" alerting the others on the list that such a thread has appeared.

It's a fairly low-volume list. Today I've sent out two SPL pings, which is unusual; most days there's none or one.

But by being on the list you don't miss a Swedish thread when it does appear.

"One way of tackling the problem is to begin with the values that the adult world passes on to children while they are young....Research also shows that adults close to the child consciously or unconsciously reproduce traditional gender patterns and gender roles. At a very early age in the child’s life, adults behave differently according to the gender of the child. Everyday aspects of pre-school life reproduce and create different gender patterns. The attitudes and values of the staff are a decisive factor in this respect."

So....the problem is with the adults who are "close to" the child in the early years of life. Let's see...who would that be? Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles maybe?

This reminds of something a friend of mine once told me. His wife's friend, a schoolteacher, was visting at their home. My friend started talking with her about education and said that he thought it would be a good idea for parents to have a bigger and more active role in the schools.

The teacher's reply: "Why? So the kids would turn out like you?

Well, while Bushwacker777 and torquinus were mulling over the invitation to join the Swedish Ping List, GoLightly snuck in via Private Reply and became

PINGEE #50 ON THE SWEDISH PING LIST! Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!

Congratulations to GoLightly!

Now the rest of you guys, while you may not be the magic #50, you still can get on the Swedish Ping List any time you want. Just let me know.

Thank you for adding me to your list.

I've wondered where I might go for a translation if I ever find any new leads on a branch of my family. Babelfish doesn't do Swedish/English.

My Great-Grandfather was born in Norra Åsum Parish, Kristianstad Län, Skåne.

They've got Swedish kids in a box because there is no such thing as private schools in Sweden, except for in the expat community. Schools are an indoctrination center.

It has been amazing to me that they cannot fathom some simple concepts like "pro-life" or "right to keep and bear arms". The schools have taught against those things for so long that it is like aliens have dropped in when the subjects come up.

Note this at the end of the article ... FREEPERs ought to let them know what you think!!

The delegation is interested in the views and ideas of people in other countries concerning gender equality work at pre-school and school level, and would very much like to establish contact with readers of this article to discuss the issue and exchange information.
