Freedom

Freedom isn’t free you know,
It isn’t even cheap.
Many paid the highest price,
So freedom, we could keep.
Soldiers fought and soldiers died,
In many foreign lands.
In forest deep and thick with snow,
And even desert sands.
We fought at sea and in the air,
The battle rages still.
We must back our troops today,
And show we have the will.
To stay the course until it’s done,
And then again we’ll see.
That freedom still belongs to us,
But never is it free.

We Served

Some of us were drafted,
Some did volunteer.
All of us did serve our land,
While others just stayed here.
We fought, we died, we gave support,
Both stateside and abroad.
They called us baby killers,
They called the war a fraud.
We were only soldiers,
We did what we were told.
Young men never came back home,
Young men now are old.
We served with pride the USA,
And all we ask of you.
Is sit and shut your rabid mouth,
Till you have served her too.

We Owe You

We owe you all for all you do,
You risk it all each day.
We’d like to send our deepest thanks,
To you we’d like to say.
You are our bravest and our best,
We’re proud of all of you.
You serve your country selflessly,
Your country knows this too.
So know that while you’re far away,
This nation backs your fight.
With your hard work and God’s Dear Grace,
This all will come out right.
So please stay safe and do your best,
Our hearts are with you there.
We hope you know that here back home,
The people really care.

With My Shield, Or On It

I know it is upsetting,
To see things done this way.
Flag-draped caskets side by side,
They’re headed home today.

One thing you might not think about,
The view from the inside.
I’ve got some time now on my hands,
While on this final ride.

Sorry I didn’t write more,
Too late to fix that now.
I’ll try to be more scrupulous,
To get word out somehow.

There are no easy channels,
But I’m sure that you will know,
I don’t regret the choice I made,
And why I had to go.

You’d think perhaps the view from here,
Would be quite dark inside,
But it is light as light can be,
My burden’s been untied.

And I’ve been lifted up,
On angel wings I think,
And I’ve got every thing I need,
Except our kitchen sink.

I’d like to wash my hands once more,
And turn and get a hug.
I wish I could shake the hand of,
My best friend too, ya lug.

But all that stuff is over now,
I’ve got my new assignment,
Looks like I hitched my wagon to,
A different star alignment.

I know I always promised Mom,
I’d try to be real good,
Will someone please just let her know,
I did the best I could.

I have to go now, duty calls,
Think of me when you can,
The folks will think they lost their boy,
My buddies saw a man.

Nice job. Laura Earl loves that cranky old lady. I can't remember the character's name.

The Agony Of The Cross

Read: Isaiah 53

[Jesus] humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. —Philippians 2:8

Bible In One Year: Jeremiah 50; Hebrews 8

As Christians, we understand the spiritual significance of Christ's sacrifice at Calvary, but it's easy to forget about the tremendous agony He endured there. The worst aspect was separation from the Father, but the physical suffering was also horrible beyond comprehension.

In his book Dare To Believe, Dan Baumann shares some thoughts that can deepen our gratitude for what the Savior did for us. He wrote, "We have perhaps unwisely and sometimes unconsciously glamorized the cross. Jewelry and steeples alike are often ornamental and attractive but carry nothing of the real story of crucifixion. It was the most painful method of public death in the first century. The victim was placed on a wooden cross. Nails . . . were driven into the hands and feet of the victim, and then the cross was lifted and jarred into the ground, tearing the flesh of the crucified and racking his body with excruciating pain. Historians remind us that even the soldiers could not get used to the horrible sight, and often took strong drink to numb their senses."

With a fresh awareness of our Savior's physical agony, let's thank Him anew for His sacrifice at Calvary. He loved us so much that He was willing to die for us—even the painful death of the cross. —Richard De Haan

Was it for crimes that I have done
He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! Grace unknown!
And love beyond degree! —Watts

We can never sacrifice enough for the One who sacrificed His all for us.

Thank you and isn't it good to be alive. If you ask LE, What's your favorite cake? She'll say, crab.
