I will try not to snivel too much.

Borax Queen, you have every right to snivel, and I hope it will be some comfort to you knowing that your FreeRepublic cyber-family will be here for you each day remembering your loved one in our prayers.

Your post inspires me to post this once again. I think this is one of the most touching poems I've read. Even though it doesn't say anything about "brothers" going to war, the sentiment is there....

I am a small and precious child, my dad's been sent to fight.
The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams at night.
He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track.
I may be sad, but I am proud…My daddy's got your back.

I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war.
My mind is filled with worries that I have never known before.
Everyday I try to keep my thoughts from turning black.
I may be scared, but I am proud…My son has got your back.

I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go.
There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know.
I bite my lip, and force a smile as I watch my husband pack.
My heart may break, but I am proud…My husband's got your back..

I am a soldier. Serving Proudly, standing tall.
I fight for freedom, yours and mine by answering this call.
I do my job, while knowing the thanks it sometimes lacks.
Say a prayer that I'll come home…It's me whose got your back.

Thank you for posting that photo of your brother. You must be so proud of him! We still have patriots here in America. Your brother is one of them. :-)

Hugs to you!

Origin of the cliche', "Keep your nose to the grindstone."

In the milling of flour in old mills, the fineness of the grind is determined by the separation between the two grinding stones. If the stones are too far apart, the flour is coarse. Too close, and heat builds up and can burn the flour. The most diligent millers, who produced the finest flour, learned to close the gap down until they could just smell the flour browning, then ease the stones apart enough to prevent burning. This required constant attention and much effort to keep the stones aligned at this optimum distance. Hence the origin of the expression, "Keep your nose to the grindstone," to mean for someone to pay close attention to what they are doing and to work hard (in case you needed to know).

LOL

My hubby is literally the Italian cook in our family. I don't know where he learned; his Mom didn't teach him to cook. It must be an inherited trait. :)

I can make biscuits and gravy! ;~)

Yours are just the sweetest, sweetest words. I will print out the poem and save your words so I can read them over and over. I am truly grateful.

He was a Marine even in my mom's belly, kicking and pounding and anxiously waiting to go protect our country :)
He used to build forts in the Presidio (SF) as soon as he was old enough to walk over there.
He served on the front lines in Persian Gulf I, helped liberate the Kuwait Airport, was injured in Somalia, has been to so many other places too.

The wonderful thing - in my opinion - is that now I have not only you beautiful folks, but it seems like there are more patriotic people in general. SO many here have yellow ribbons on their cars, like I've never seen before. During the first Persian Gulf War, yellow ribbons were a little hard to come by.

Hi A-G

Kinda cool here. We are going to a basketball game tonight. I think they have ice on the floor for the hockey team so I may freeze to death.

Hope you are having a great day!

I just put another one up. I use ImageShack and haven't had anyone tell me (other than temporarily) that they couldn't see the pics, yikes. But, maybe I'm doing something wrong. I post a lot of cat photos on some other threads. I hope you get to see at least one of these!
