Autumn

In the valley once so green
leaves are leaving trees behind
Grey geese heading south are seen
a certain Autumn sign
Though darkness falls and winter's near
and summer's far away
I can say be of good cheer
it will return some day

The leaves that fall are blushing
as if they were embarrassed
by leaving their trees undressed
The birds have ceased their singing
though tunes of summer linger
yet the flower have gone to rest

The valley once so green
Grey geese heading south are seen
Summer yet so far away
I know it will return some day

A cold and misty morning
is letting us all know
a new season is dawning
when summer has let go...

Blessed Are the Peacemakers

Blessed are those who bring peace to the world
Always by sacrifice, sometimes at the edge of a sword
But for good men to kill, to save strangers far away
That is a sacrifice only good men can make.

It changes the heart, it changes the mind,
it colors the soul, and takes a toll
But good men who fight evil and with little to gain
for any but those, who they have chosen to save.

Blessed are those who bring peace at great cost
And count the toll in the lives of their friends yet carry on till the end
Where freedom and liberty, purchased with the blood of our heroes
stains the sands and the streets in far away lands.

Perhaps in the present day, that sacrifice is unknown
but the blood of heroes tints time, and time never knows
Except that in time, the heroes are lifted up in the hearts and minds
of those born into the liberty and freedom only heroes bring to be.

Blessed are those who sacrifice all and everything
to bring the peace, who serve as the willing hands
of a greatful nation, in a distant land, so far away.

Blessed are the men and women, who serve, who fight
who build, who feel the burning need for freedom in their bones
With courage, heart, and soul... blessed are our heroes.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God."

Free Prayer

Read: Ephesians 6:10-20

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance. —Ephesians 6:18

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 53-55; 2 Thessalonians 1

A pastor was asked to call on a woman in a psychiatric hospital and pray for her. After his visit, he thought how good it would be for somebody to go there regularly and pray for the residents. The "somebody" turned out to be him. On a table in one of the wards, he put up a sign saying "Free Prayer." Later he recalled, "Suddenly I had 15 people standing in line to get prayed for."

People often ask for our prayers, but do we faithfully pray for them? Many times we see others in great need but find it easier to discuss their plight with friends rather than to intercede for them. But people need and want our prayers.

Paul concluded his call to put on "the whole armor of God" (Ephesians 6:13-17) by writing, "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints" (v.18).

Oswald Chambers often referred to prayer as "the ministry of the interior" and said, "There is no snare, or any danger of infatuation or pride in intercession; it is a hidden ministry that brings forth fruit whereby the Father is glorified."

Faithful prayer—whether in public or private—is one of the greatest gifts we can give others. —David McCasland

To give to others what they need,
We show no greater care
Than when we give them to the Lord,
Upholding them in prayer. —D. De Haan

Our intercession may be the key to God's intervention.
