Harvesting Joy

Can one grow tired of too much happiness, too much joy, too much bliss?
Would you wish for a more quiet moment, if the world would give you this?
All our happiness comes in bunches, like the harvest for the feast,
And we all give grateful “thank-you”s from the greatest to the least.

The rising swell of Nature’s bounty will be followed by a trough,
And the day of laughing hearty is soon followed by a cough.
All these things are in a balance, day is followed by the night.
But that portends just as truly, that great darkness yields to bright.

If you find yourself in doldrums, there’s a zephyr coming soon,
And the path in utter darkness will be glistened by the moon.
Baking days of Summer sunshine will be chilled by Winter snow,
And the tiny leaves of Springtime, slowly turn to gold, you know.

Life is filled with passing patterns, first the bitter, then the sweet,
And the sadness of a parting is forgotten when we meet.
Save the moments of your treasures, hold them in your bosom tight,
That in darkness of their leaving, you’ll be glowing by their light.

Take the time from Summer’s harvest, to distill a warming brew,
Of the sweetness you remember, when the Winter threatens you.
In the darkness of December, light a candle for the time,
That the Springtime of your journey was so brilliant and sublime.

I've requested post #3 be removed.

I love the graphic and the poem but I think posting it once should have been sufficient. :)

Hey, I know this guy!! (The one who writes these poems.)

He's not as good as you make him look.

By the way, Happy Bastille Day, Jen.

For those of you not familiar with the story, it was an early version of "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!!"

Only in the earlier episode, they said, "Mr. Royal Pain, tear down this prison ... Oh, never mind, we'll do it ourselves!!"

Well, I had a Georgie Jessel moment there.

The story was, Jessel, known for making sensitive and moving eulogies, took a moment to actually look at the deceased, whom he had been extolling, and exclaimed out loud,

"Hey!! I know this guy..."

Percy The Penguin

Percy the little penguin, has a coat upon his back,
He looks so awfully formal!! ‘Tis made of Down, and Black.

Percy the little penguin, has a shirt as white as snow
But , what he wears underneath? I really do not know.

Percy the little penguin, doesn’t ever sit to dine,
Nor, never ever, with his food, Would he drink any wine.

Percy the little penguin, how he enjoys his swim,
He slides down the ice flows, And slips right over the rim.

Percy’s a funny penguin, to see him wobble about,
But when he mingles with his mates!! You would never pick him out.

I like it, but I was disappointed that mosquitoes were not mentioned.

The section on mosquitoes was in comment number 3.

Amy didn't like the words I used to rhyme with mosquitoes.

Wild Geese
by Donna Flood

Thoughts Like a crumpled brown leaf
A fist closed and held it there.
There is no pain, no grief.
Why would something so brittle care?

Can't there be a time for goslins grazin'
While their Mama and Papa stand by them?
Wild birds they were we're phrasin'
Only a flick of our interest and whim.

The grass is green where they pluck it,
So industriously they work for food,
Their head is down for a bit.
No matter Mama's head's up, cautious mood.

She's been tamed and raised in this park,
Still she isn't careless and trusting yet.
Though the hour is late, almost dark,
She'll see her babies graze and get.

You are called a wild thing,
Sometimes, I wonder about this.
If you are wild why do you bring
Such lovely pictures of bliss.
