The Hobbit Hole VII - But not yet weary are our feet...
Posted on 03/15/2004 1:45:41 PM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
But not yet weary are our feet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

...got the stuff to make SuziQ's spinach dip.I don't think I made Spinach Dip. Wasn't that Ruthy or Wn, and they put it in the hollowed out loaf of bread? I've made it before, though. Just followed the directions on the back of the package of Mrs. Grass (or Knorr's) Vegetable Soup Mix. Even if the recipe doesn't call for them, add some chopped up water chestnuts. It gives it a nice crunch.

I would have LOVED to go! I had to work a City Council Workshop (strategic planning) from 8 to 2 today. Ugh. Too many weekends etc. One day I'm going to reclaim my life!

Oh well....never mind then. :)
I thought it was your recipe. I didn't find the Lipton's vegetable dip mix so I used McCormick's instead....it could be a bit saltier. It's on tap with tortillas for the UNC game tonight.

highs in the 60's but we have a front coming through sometime. They're saying lows in the 20's (I'll have to bring in the spinach) and it'll only be in the 40's tomorrowI'm jealous. I have the air conditioning on here. I'm not even going to get that cheap month of electricity between winter and summer this year...it's so hot!

Good Afternoon. Gypsy is home, has already been for nice walk, and is settling in. She has explored her back yard and soon going to get a good brushing and bath.
Annie is taking her new sister already, she was waiting by front door when we came back from the walk, just like she used to.
I'm afraid the best we can do for a picture is on the website of waysidewaifs.org If you click on see our animals and check off dog & female & over 1 year & no preference on size and breed (I think) and hit search, she will be the first or second one.
The vet maybe able to help on the "mix" part, I'm thinking some setter and shepard. Bout 40-45 lbs I think, and did I mention she's a sweet dog. :-)
The staff & volunteers all had to say good bye to her, apparently was quite a favorite :-) she was a well walked and treated dog during her stay there.
Need to join lsa for a grooming session with Gypsy.
BBL and thanks.

Mostly in Ireland on my mother's side and Norway on my father's. My family's from Wisconsin. We have one ancestor we've traced to Pennsylvania, and we don't know where she was from before that; the rest came here directly from Ireland and Norway, and also the German/Polish border (not sure if the area was part of Germany or Poland at the time in question), though we haven't traced that branch earlier than the 19th century. Actually we've only traced the Irish branch directly to the 19th century, but we've found a family with the same name from the 17th century; and the Norwegian side I believe we've actually traced back even earlier than that--would need to look, but I think it was maybe to the 14th or 15th century.

Hullo... I got my Mexican food! Yum! And stopped off at B&N. The comic section was too intimidating today, though, not when I had obnoxious brothers along.
Now we're just hanging.

Cool. My peeps are mostly originally from Virginia and migrated all over the South. Mostly English, some Scots and Ulster Scots (Scots-Irish) and a German fellow who came down from Penn. to the Carolinas. I also have Belgian and French (S. Louisiana) on my mother's mother's side.
I haven't found any relations that are post-Revolutionary War.

Evening OT: Thanks very much (dang, you're good with that stuff) well, that is our Gypsy-girl alright :-); she's stretched out on a rug between the couches as I type. She has had quite a day, today.

So what other books did you get then?
Now we're just hanging.
LOL--you just reminded me of this Ren and Stimpy episode about hanging :) There's these two really dumb sheriffs sitting around the jailhouse bored. The narrator describes them as "ignorant".
One says to the other, "Boy, we sure is ignorant."
"Yep."
Long pause.
"Um--by the way--what's 'ignorant' mean?"
Pause. Blinking in confusion.
"I don't know--but whatever it is, we's it!"
Pause. More blinking.
"Um--what are we gonna do today?"
Long pause.
"Um--how's about we hang somebody?"
"Good idea!--uh, who we gonna hang? We already done hanged just about everyone in town."
"I know--let's go find us some villains to hang!"
So they go to look for villains, and ultimately find Ren and Stimpy and frame them for horse theft. However, upon attempting to hang Ren and Stimpy, they discover it's impossible.
"We cain't hang them. The skinny one don't weigh enough, and the fat one ain't got no neck."
Confused blinking.
"Um--how about we hang each other then?"
Ecstastic squeal. Problem solved. Then the musical begins:
1-2-3-4-wellllll. . .
The Lord loves a hangin'
That's why he gave us necks!
It tightens up our vocal cords
And loosens up our pecs
So if you are a horse thief
And guilty to the bone
Go ahead and blame a friend
And you won't hang alone
It may be hard to swoller
But you'll be three feet taller
And you can even entertain your friends [plays banjo on own elongated neck]
Just say you are a villain
Don't worry none 'bout killin'
Go ahead and steal yourself a horse
1-3-5-7,
8-9-10-11--welllllll!
The Lord loves a hangin'
And so do we, by heck!
So get yourself a lasso
And decorate your neck
'Cause we is awful ignorant
And uglier than sin
So go ahead and cut us down. . .
And hang us up again!
[Talk-singing over music, in voice of narrator of "Beverly Hillbillies" theme song]I'm a'hangin'
I'm a-swingin'
I'm ignorant!
And I'm ugly
Go ahead--hang a spell--take your shoes off!
Yee-haw!
:-)
BTW, you have a reply to your last email.
