Final report on SciFis Battlestar Galactica: I agree with your report in all its points. It was a good production overall with some nifty model design and a visual look that was just right.
The story was enjoyable and somewhat relevant to the fight between good and evil that we humans have faced throughout our history.
Grace Park is a hottie, and she was the most appealing of the three young women on the show.
Has there been any speculation on a series? It would seem the mini-series did everything it could to set up the first episode of a regular weekly Battlestar Galactica show.

Well if it makes you feel any better, maybe all the Hispanic people were from the lost 13th tribe and came to Earth.

Grace Park.
She's a pretty good pro golfer, too. :-)

And I must say, the idea of having the chip in Baldar's head so that he and we can see his protagonists is simply top shelf.
Although this is a recycled idea, which was done quite well in Farscape, I didn't mine that much that it was used here. Probably because the motivations are different, especially with the twisted affection Number Six has for Baltar because he's such a self-serving individual without morals.
Also, look at character conflicts vs STNG/STDSN/Voyager/Enterprise which have NONE. There are a few flaws, but based on Part II this show is far better than anything I've seen in awhile.
What I DESPISED about Voyager, and to an extent Enterprise, was how "clean" everything was, physically and morally, despite the situation they were in, almost a galaxy away from any kind of support. They were *always* fully stocked with equipment and material, and you never felt that the crew was at all desperate to get home. In fact Janeway made decisions regularly that a normal crew would have mutinied over in an instant(her Borg dealings immediately coming to mind).
I hope if BG does continue in series, that the wagon train's actually going to realistically suffer the stresses of low supplies, and that we see the human conflict and perserverance that ensues. Given what we've seen in this mini-series so far, I think this off to a MUCH better start than Voyager ever was.

"Yeah, when Stands With Head Up @ss says they need to start making babies I thinking, OK, who do I hook up with. Valleri was it by a long shot -- then we find out she's a Cylon."
I was so frustrated when they made Boomer one of the Cylons! I thought that it was rather clever to have someone you thought was one of the main good guys actually be an antagonist. Kinda reminds me of Sydney Bristow's roommate in "Alias".

Not necessarily, the Cylon's may have used her DNA or photos. Anything is possible in a Sigh Fi.

That's true, especially with this show. Which I must say is what I like about it. I NEVER would have bet Head up her Butt would leave the little kid. Wrong actor, wrong track record for this kind of show. Nice to see a little bit of real moral dilemma for a change.

I was so frustrated when they made Boomer one of the Cylons!Remember what #6 said to Baltar? About some of the Cylon infiltrators might not even know if they're Cylons until a signal turns a switch?
Boomer might not even know who she really is. And if she is discovered to be one, she still might be saved a-la "Seven of Nine."
Which is why I hope they make this series continue.

Okay. If you don't want to think of it as "race" (and I agree it's not), how about of some sort of Spaniard culture then? Or would you deny there is a culture as well, or that cultures are referenced in the future?
Jean-Luc Picard was obviously very very French. Chekotay (sp?) on Voyager was clearly very into his Amerindian roots. More than enough British accents and citations of British ancestry have made it into the future (Marcus from Babylon 5, just as an example). Scotsmen. Koreans. Etc. etc. etc. It's not just racial identities that have survived but vestiges (and more) of national heritage too.
Actually, I'm Cuban myself (also white), and I'm not particularly thrilled with the term Hispanic either. I just used it for the sake of conversation, and didn't want to be so specific as to say "Spaniard" in any particular sense. My point is, in all future histories you can see ways in which almost all of today's cultures and races have evolved and assimilated and become a part of the future culture. Not really any vestige of Spaniard culture though. We just... disappear. Somehow, I don't think it's meant as any sort of compliment over how well we assimilate.
Interestingly enough, I can't think of any Italians in the future either. Maybe it's not a Hispanic thing specifically, but Mediterranean in general? This wouldn't surprise me at all.
Note - this is not any kind of a "protest". I don't really -care-. I'm not all angry and suggesting boycotts or anything - that's a Democrat thing. I just think it's rather blatant and when other "identity groups" whine about not being represented in SciFi, I think it's an appropriate response to get them to shut up. To date, I have met several blacks who think that even after LaForge and Sisko and several other examples, blacks aren't represented enough. I've never heard them able to cite anyone of any Spanish ancestry though. Considering that "Hispanics" now outnumber blacks of all stripes in this country, I think the snub is a bit more blatant.

There have been a fair number of 'Spics (I was born in Mexico btw, and am a Sephardi Jew-- always wondered if that classifies me as Hispanic) on network tv:
Jimmy Smits character of LA Law Nicholas Tuturro's character on NYPD Blue Torres on ST: Voyager (well, half hispanic and half klingon) the captain character on the Shield the George Lopez show
Actually, I guess Torres is the only pseudo-Spic I can think of in SciFi. Then again, Ivonova is the only Jew I can think of, Bashir from DS9 is the only Arab, Garibaldi from B5 is the only Italian etc. Fact is, Americans like their TV characters bland and mid-American. Too bad.... (though specific nationality characters would make no sense in BSG, because they aren't even earthlings).

as one of Fred Saberhagens BerserkersI thought the same thing. Ever notice how much sci-fi has been derived from Saberhagen's work? Seriously - Star Wars' Death Star, the Terminator movies, The Matrix, Dan Simmons' TechnoCore from the Hyperion series of novels, the Borg from Star Trek, and now both incarnations of Battlestar.
All examples of technology gone horribly wrong, and desperate humans trying to find a way to defeat it.

Wing Commander rocked. I tried to play WC IV a while back, but it was a no go with XP.In my experience, XP rocks, mostly. But when it comes to playing my old games (like Quake 1, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Redneck Rampage, etc - old DOS games), it blows.
I'm getting an old Pentium 3 500Mhz box soon, just so I can run my old games on a clean install of Win98 SE.

Absolutely number two scene was when the had to leave the non-FTL ships, and STWHUA has to make a hard hard decision. Very well done scene, and nice effect with just the missiles coming and the whiting out. Made me think of 9-11 and the kids who were on the planes going to see Grandma.
But I am a sucker for any scifi that has capital ship engagements. having the ending action sequence be BSG vs. Two Cylon battlestars covering a retreat was awesome. I dont know why Galactica even has fighters, did you see the weaponry it fielded? the entire ship is covered with Batteries.
Also the way Starbuck rescued Apollo deserves a special mention. I guessed that she was going to rescue him in a way that defied physics, but it was totally believable and blew me away. Extremely good piloting skills there.
Very last scene was basically "Gee we'd like to do another movie so lets make sure and leave them hanging"
Overall the movie had its low points but the high points and the overall way they upheld the original concept while fixing the glaring plot holes in the original left a much, much better movie. Hats off to the guys who worked on it.

Oh yes the original was much better:
after fighting a thousand year war with the Cylons, The Cylons make some peace gestures and the humans immediately gather all their forces in one spot and turn off all their weapons.
yah makes sense to me, but then again, maybe they were Democrats.

Spainaird would imply you are a Spanish citizen. But then people have no problem with saying they are Irish when actually they are third or fourth generation US citizans. I think the term Latino is probably the best term, but I think some take offence to that also.
As far as Hispanic representation in Si Fi, how do you think the Irish feel. Last as I recall the only people with an Irish accent were a bunch of irish phesants being transported in STNG. Typical sterotyped poor druken dirt farmers.
