.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Trick or Treat!

I want my chocolate!
Okay, instead I just fixed myself some cafe mocha with whipped cream! I shouldn't but what the heck, it is Halloween afterall. Maybe all of those ghost and ghouls out there will scare away the calories! :-)

Annabel Lee
by Edgar Allan Poe
1849

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

-The End-
Sniff

Cafe Mocha is my favorite. I think I might make me one too. I'm sooooooooo sleepy. Being sleepy is not good for trick-or-treating.

evanescence - even in death

give me a reason to believe that you're gone
i see your shadow so i know they're all wrong
moonlight on the soft brown earth
it leads me to where you lay
they took you away from me but now i'm taking you home

[chorus]
i will stay forever here with you
my love
the softly spoken words you gave me
even in death our love goes on

some say i'm crazy for my love, oh my love
but no bonds can hold me from your side, oh my love
they don't know you can't leave me
they don't hear you singing to me

[chorus]
i will stay forever here with you
my love
the softly spoken words you gave me
even in death our love goes on
and i can't love you, anymore than i do

i will stay forever here with you
my love
the softly spoken words you gave me
even in death our love goes on
and i can't love you, anymore than i do

i'll die, but real love is forever

LOL! You two are cracking me up. Very Clever!

I wish I could add more, but I am rhyme impaired today. Can't think of a thing.

LIR, since you mentioned that Starbucks "caramel job" on the Finest thread, that's all I can think of! Now I am going to have to get in the car and go get one.

Oooh! What a creepy spider! Yikes! Looks like something in the corner of my living room! I decorated for Halloween without any effort! Hee hee.

I know what you mean about the caramel job, I just had to make myself a cafe mocha with whipped cream and extra chocolate(I really need to buy some caramel sauce too) poured into it thanks to my big mouth! I don't have the energy to get ready to drive to Starbucks! Gotta clean for company, and here I sit in front of this computer! LOL

evanescence - holding my last breath

Hold onto me love
You know I can't stay long
All I wanted to say was I love you and I'm not afraid
Can you hear me?
Can you feel me in your arms?

Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight
I'll miss the winter
A world of fragile things
Look for me in the white forest
Hiding in a hollow tree (Come find me)

I know you hear me
I can taste it in your tears

Holding my last breath
Safe inside myself
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight

Closing your eyes to disappear
You pray your dreams will leave you here
But still you wake and know the truth
No one's there

Say goodnight
Don't be afraid
Calling me calling me as you fade to black

Say goodnight
holding my last breath
Don't be afraid
Safe inside myself
Calling me, calling as you fade
Are all my thoughts of you
Sweet raptured light
It ends here tonight

(spoken, fading)
holding my last breath
safe inside myself
are all my thoughts of you
sweet raptured light
it ends here tonight

Darn it! You two have done it now - I'm going to go see if I have any Cappuccino stuff - any flavor will do right now, but the Mocha does take care of that chocolate craving.

Billie very graciously pointed out that I posted these on a previous P and P instead of today's. So, here they are once again!

How I spent Halloween at work as George W. Bush:

Sans mask in my office - notice the political expressions on the wall? LOL!

In front of my office, decorated as "The White House":

Leading my department's parade - it was made up of soldiers, Uncle Sam, Lady Liberty, Flag girls, Betsy Ross being pulled on a float (hidden) and my boss taking up the rear (also hidden):
