Key points regarding Qatar, Netanyahu, and his aides: The ongoing probe, dubbed “Qatargate” by Israeli media, centers on allegations that Netanyahu’s former spokesperson, Eli Feldstein, and political adviser, Jonatan Urich, accepted payments from Qatar to distribute pro-Qatari messages to Israeli media.
According to investigators, Feldstein received a monthly salary from an American lobbyist for Qatar while working in the Prime Minister’s Office. Court documents state that the aides worked to present “sympathetic articles” about Qatar in the media, minimizing Egypt’s role in mediation.
Netanyahu has denied knowing about his aides’ alleged actions, claiming he was not involved and was not paid by Qatar. He has dismissed the investigation as a politically motivated “witch hunt” and “libel”.
For years, with Netanyahu’s unblinking support, Qatar sent millions of dollars in cash to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip for “humanitarian purposes.” This policy has drawn criticism with claims it helped “prop up” Hamas.
