If extraterrestrial life sent us a message tomorrow, how would humanity respond? According to researchers, we don't know yet — and that's a problem.

That's why, for the first time in 35 years, a team of policy experts and scientists have united to establish a set of alien-contact protocols for the entire world to follow in the event of a sudden encounter with E.T.

"Science fiction is awash with explorations of the impact on human society following discovery of, and even encounters with, life or intelligence elsewhere," John Elliot, a computer scientist at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, said in a statement. Elliot is the coordinator of the University of St. Andrews' newly established SETI Detection Hub, the cross-disciplinary organization that will establish the new alien contact protocol.

Another boondoggle to fleece taxpayers and line pockets. I strongly suspect they have been here and likely have made contact years ago. They likely view us as an under-developed planet worthy of observation to keep us quarantined from higher developed planets.

I would imagine that any beings traveling across the expanse of the universe would probably direct the conversation.

Exactly. To the visiting beings it will probably be like trying to figure out how to converse with lab rats.

It might be humorous though to see what that come up with. Maybe they'll want to tax them for their spaceship's contribution to Universe Warming.

I believe this is in reference to Army of Darkness, which I'm not exactly sure is on topic except for some people's premise that what some people consider aliens or extraterrestrials are evil and demonic.



We already have protocols by certain governments (apparently in collusion with each other, but also in competition) and possibly some NGI's, and that is to establish contact as covertly as possible for the sake of their own gain, as if it would even be possible to manipulated a more highly advanced species.

This assumes that aliens will be friendly do-gooders, your next door neighbors, and best friends.

What if they are not? What if they see us as competition for resources?

What if their message is sent from light years distant, in the form of a naked singularity traveling a 90% light speed and aimed at the sun?

Our message back in the form of a strongly worded letter? A diplomatic plea? Or just bend over and KYA good bye?
