A Winter War In Ukraine Favors Russia And Will Be Bloody
19FortyFive ^ | 10/14/2022 | Daniel L. Davis

Posted on 10/15/2022 7:56:05 AM PDT by whyilovetexas111

As the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) say they hope their offensive reaches the city of Kherson by this winter, Russia continues preparation for a massive counterattack which could begin as early as next month. The results of that battle are likely to be bloody and destructive, but unlikely to settle the war one way or the other.

Don't listen to the media - Ukraine isn't going to win anything. Feels like Vietnam 2.0 to me - but far worse. When do we send our own boys to fight? That feels like what is next?

Probably not.

Never lose sight of the fact that this is not a war between Russian and the Ukraine.

It Russia versus the EU (aka Fourth Reich), and the Ukrainians are more than happy to be cannon fodder for the Reich.

Because all 300,000 new troops will have been issued winter clothing.

There will be a lot of frozen Russian toes and fingers.

“massive counterattack” by troops armed with what exactly, forced to purchase their own kit, with no reliable supply of food, ammo or winter clothing and absolutely no motivation to fight??

Ukraine is fighting on its home turf

Sorry, the article’s sadly out of touch with reality.

Plus both countries have declining populations and can ill afford to keep feeding their young men into a meatgrinder.

I’d be willing to bet we have some SpecOps and CIA over there currently.
Proof? I have none.

I expect Russia to push toward the Dnieper River.

I expect Ukraine to fold like a cheap suit unless NATO foolishly gets involved.

Yep, demographics is destiny.

Alcoholism, drugs, suicide, abortion, war, and a low birth rate tell their futures if they follow current trajectories.

Feels like Vietnam 2.0 to me - but far worse.

It is Vietnam 2.0 - except this time the Russians, not the Americans, are the occupying army and the Ukrainians are much better armed and organized than the Vietnamese ever were.

Putin's been expecting the same since February. Hasn't happened.

Russia can’t supply their troops in the field now. How does the situation change to Russia’s advantage when the weather turns cold and the Ruskies must supply more food, fuel for heating, winter clothing, etc.? It doesn’t. The poorly trained Russian conscripts are more likely to surrender in the winter than fight. Since Russia is now on the defensive in Northern Luhansk province, the rivers freezing is likely to help the Ukies.

The Russians in Kherson Province are pushing towards the Dnieper River... (that's a retreat for those of you in Rio Linda)

I'm awed by this backwards argument that winter favors the Russians, as if the Ukrainians are unfamiliar with what winter is like in their own country.

Also, winter puts a much heavier logistical burden on an army than does summer, and Ukrainian field forces will have much shorter supply lines than will the Russians.

Obviously, we will have to wait and see. But I think those expecting the Russians to have massive success during the winter are going to be bitterly disappointed.

I think some people here are confusing the Russian army of 2022 with the Red Army of 1944.

The Ukrainian logistical advantage is going to become far more important during winter operations. But don't try talking logistics to a lot of the pro-Russian posters here....

Ukraine RIP 1991-2023, the quicker the better.

Ukraine is and always has been a corrupted, welfare nation, defaulting on every loan since their inception in 1991. Even if, a big if, if negotiations start, Vlad is not returning the ethnic Russian Donbass. The Donbass brought in 60-70 percent of the Ukies revenue. Donbass now belongs to the Russian Federation. Get used to it.

Ukraine’s entire economy, manufacturing, currency and corrupted banking system has been decimated, coupled with unpayable debt rising each day, there is no way the welfare nation can possibly rebuild without massive welfare checks from the West….and as the EU banking system is crumbling, expect little from them ( and no the IMF will not bail them out- the Ukies have defaulted on the last loans issued in 2015)…

Flatly put, the Ukies are expended, over drawn, and dead beats who have never paid their bills.

Ask anyone in the EU, “ when shaking hands with a Ukrainian, be sure to check how many fingers he stole”…rings truer every day.
