Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov emphasized on Friday at a conference that it is not in Moscow's interest to have an open conflict with the United States or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Ryabkov expressed concerns over Russia's current relations with the two, stating that they are "near-zero levels." He shared that "America is incapable of negotiating in principle and, together with a number of NATO capitals, is directly pushing Kiev to transfer military operations to our territory, intending to fight to the last Ukrainian" so as to impose "a strategic defeat" on Russia.
He further underscored that Moscow is not threatening anyone with nuclear attacks, but is rather warning of risks of interfearance in its military operation in Ukraine. "The US deliberately lowers the nuclear threshold, creating a threat to the national security of Russia," Ryabkov stated.
Many people think that the best way to escape war is to dwell upon its horrors and to imprint them vividly upon the minds of the younger generation. They flaunt the grisly photograph before their eyes. They fill their ears with tales of carnage. They dilate upon the ineptitude of generals and admirals. They denounce the crime as insensate folly of human strife. Now, all this teaching ought to be very useful in preventing us from attacking or invading any other country, if anyone outside a madhouse wished to do so, but how would it help us if we were attacked or invaded ourselves that is the question we have to ask.
Would the invaders consent to hear Lord Beaverbrook’s exposition, or listen to the impassioned appeals of Mr. Lloyd George? Would they agree to meet that famous South African, General Smuts, and have their inferiority complex removed in friendly, reasonable debate? I doubt it. I have borne responsibility for the safety of this country in grievous times. I gravely doubt it.
But even if they did, I am not so sure we should convince them, and persuade them to go back quietly home. They might say, it seems to me, “you are rich; we are poor. You seem well fed; we are hungry. You have been victorious; we have been defeated. You have valuable colonies; we have none. You have your navy; where is ours? You have had the past; let us have the future.” Above all, I fear they would say, “you are weak and we are strong.”
-Winston Churchill (1934)
“...The 2008 Kosovo ‘referendum’ went against the Serbian constitution...”
How? The Serbian constitution was silent on the subject.
Please see my comment #61. I addressed the issue there.
Basically “See what you made me do”.
I suspect it’s because of Pooty Poot.
The former vassal states of the USSR remember being under the rule of the commies and the don’t want to suffer from that again.🤔
Was the US a signatory to the Budapest Memorandum? I believe the answer is yes.
Not as if life under the Czars was much better.
I’m curious, what countries has the US annexed in say the past 50 years?🤔
You beat me to it.😏
Kosovo? Just cuz your asking.
Not as if life under the Czars was much better.
The Russification was worse. Languages banned, etc. The Soviets incorporated some national identity into the SSR as window dressing.
Sounds kinda “National Socialist” to me.
That is easy to say, Russia is not going to withdraw, if Putin withdraws now, he will either end up dead or in Siberia never to be seen again, he’s staked his entire future on the success of this campaign, it’s unrealistic at this point.
You have to try to ignore the difference between stingers and billions in aid the US and other countries have given Ukraine.
We might try to negotiate with Putin, without continuing to escalate the war.
Up to you who you believe - I don’t give a damn.
I’m more apt to trust a few congress critters over Russia Propaganda however.
I absolutely don’t trust anything out of Ukraine.
Just 🙄.
This is ye old good cop bad cop act from Russia. Their top TV media figures howl about nukes and NATO. Then this minster Sergey Ryabkov comes along and says, we actually don’t want war with the USA and NATO.
Prolly Putin feels less tense now, with his craptastic mobilization in motion, and his jive-ass, manipulated elections in Eastern Ukraine.
who cares what you believe? but I do recommend therapy if you hold any trust in congress.
Lots of people care what I believe.
I’m not here to spit lies - the truth is out there. Russia doesn’t sell truth and neither do Putin’s stooges.
Fellow patients?
