Best Grip or Skaters Tape You Have Used?

As I near 70, no matter how much I exercise, my grip has become weaker, and this is a problem for consistently pulling pocket knives, small flashlights and small pepper spray out of my pants pocket with 2-3 fingers.

I carry them on a Pocket Shield. A bit expensive, but IMHO worth it.

(Belt carry isn't legal, and too problematic where I live, and yes I am working to move...)

I noticed that I have less trouble with a larger flashlight that has aggressive knurling, but that light is realistically too large and too heavy for daily pocket carry).

Was thinking about adding strips of grip tape to the sides of the top ends of each individual pocket tool, to make it easier to finger-grip, and consistently and cleanly extract them as needed.

I have looked online and the consensus seems to be the tape doesn't stay on that long (though no one specifically mentions how long), but given the low cost of the tape, if I got a few weeks of help from it and then had to re-apply more tape, maybe its worth it?

Any thoughts / product suggestions appreciated, especially if you have used grip tape or other product for a similar issue.

FRegards...

It has been many years since I needed to tape up any skaters.
It was during the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah when
last I had need of taping up some skaters.
It was a simpler time and duct tape worked just fine.

Not sure if this will help. When I did mounted shooting I used a product called Pistol Pro Grip that I put on my hands.
It worked very well but I’m not sure if it stays on the hands all day. It stayed on for the entire shoot, including holding reins, and handling things. Couple of hours any how.

My father in law...on my recommendation, purchased a Ruger LC-9 for convenient concealed carry. He loved it so much he bought two. One to carry and one for...well...he bought two.

He was 79 at the time and gave me something he used to modify his two Rugers that made them easier to operate.

He cut short 2" strips of this hyper sticky-backed abrasive tape...used for the likes of steps on a pool ladder.
He stuck them on to each side of the slide near the rear where Ruger had decided that some very shallow grooves cut into the aluminum were sufficient to grip and rack the slide to chamber a round.

I loved it. Works like a charm for effortless slide draw on that firearm.

Perhaps such a thing would alleviate your issues with grip on other items. Might be worth a try.

Have you thought about putting them in a tourist pouch that hangs around your neck?

Thats an interesting idea, thank you. Maybe just put a few drops on the finger tips before leaving the house...

I’ve cut small lengths of bicycle inner tube...couple of inches long...and pulled it up on my SureFire flashlights. Helps a little. I used an old tube from my road bike. Probably don’t want to buy a new tube just to cut up.

I also used Talon Grip on my Kahr pistol. It was OK as grip material. Lasted a long time, but got to looking worn, so I pulled it off. Seemed like good stuff at the time and stuck like a champ.

You might try gaffers tappe. Super sticky on one side and rough on the other. Cheap and available in different widths.

3M self-fusing rubber tape. It fuses to itself and sticks to objects by being conformable to shapes plus being grippy because it’s rubbery. It won’t leave any gum on the item when removed.

See Tape 23 and Tape 70 on this pdf; https://multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/592238O/01-tapes-emd-2009-catalog.pdf?&fn=01_Tapes_v02.pdf

Alternatively, tool handle dip might work for some things. Platsi Dip is the most common brand.

Do you go back to when kids would take those old metal skates, disassemble them, screw them to a short length of board and...voila...have a handmade skateboard? I do...mid-60s maybe? Long before real skateboards. The good old days...

Most people here have no idea what you are talking about so the best advice is to just experiment and find what works for you.......Sheesh!

Maybe a simple cheap fix - adhesive backed light grit sandpaper

Cut it to shape, slap it on where you need it.

You could put bits of Talon grips on a small, bright flashlight or pocket knife. They can be found at Amazon along with similar, cheaper grips under other brands.

This is my method of maintaining my grip at 70.
10,000 miles a year on my (Indian Scout) motorcycle. Proper motivation works wonders.

Some riders in the Scout forum have said the clutch lever pull is hard and fatiguing. I have not found that to be the case. For which I am grateful.

You’re really correct.

Doing some farmer walks with heavy kettle bells or dumbbells would do wonders.

As for specific tape recommendations, anything would be fine. I’d probably start by going to academy and seeing what they had in the golf or weightlifting areas.
