Received a mandatory update (34) alert on my Samsung Galaxy S10e. You can delay the install, but not avoid it.
Now all internet access starts from a Google Chrome page. While you can uninstall Google Chrome, you also lose access to Google maps.
And those duckduckgo searches you thought were private....uh, no, they are sitting there listed as "recent searches".
My Samsung 6S has another problem... Samsung/Google bloated the operating system so that I can’t fit very many programs on the phone now.
It’s their way to get me to upgrade from a phone that (otherwise) does everything I want it to do.
I am sitting next to a portable HAM.
The only thing stopping me from getting a license, is the fact that every licensed HAM operator has his/her name/address publicly available. :(
(and no, I am not transmitting on it)
If you have a google account, go in and disable or pause all of their BS including tracking, location, ad preferences etc.
On you’re phone uninstall chrome and just about everything you can that you don’t use or want and/or force stop/disable everything google related.
Doesn’t solve everything but helps a lot.
.. and I leave my cell home 99% of the time.
Actually an answering machine is built into my land line phone. I also had a stand alone answering machines in the late 80s (that one used tape), another in the 90’s and Noughties.
They suffice.
Someday soon after 5G rolls out and they can finally tell, at least when combined with surveillance cameras, I expect there will be an app to alert people to folks not carrying phones and not using apps related to Covid etc.
“Solution: flip phone.”
I wish that were possible. I’d go back to my old Motorola in a heartbeat if I could. I think this month all 3G phones are dead in the water. Hubby has a new flip phone, but it’s Android based; I think all newer flip phones are Android or iPhone based.
Going to try to order a BB Classic (4G) for T-Mobile, as some are available online.
Considering the selfie craze shouldn’t we call them Ham Phones?
After the big freeze last year when cell service crashed, they upgraded the towers and killed our flip phone.
People actually believe the Duck keeps searches private? That’s funny.
I’m not a techie when it comes to cellular. These phones ... what providers will they work with? I didn’t see that in the article.
I use brave browser and it works well
Ping
Do you have other browsers installed?
I have an S10E and if I click a link in an email to take me to the web it gives me a choice to use Samsung Internet, Chrome, or Opera. Below the choices you can click “Just once” or “Always”.
Can experts tell me why fb will not come up normally in my brave browser now on samsung s10? New change.
Instead a truncated version comes up. And it wants me to download a fb app. No way!
Yes, I use Brave sometimes too.
Linky?
Some of us don’t even carry those. Being unreachable except by land line is very nice
I’m glad it works for you, it doesn’t work in my life worth a d***. I haven’t had a land line in 20 years. I want to be able to get and answer emails and use the net when away from home. Being able to do so can involve thousands of dollars.
Yea that’s a good one. Email to bing here.
Go to Settings then Apps. Click on Chrome. Look at Browser app and see if it has been changed to default.
