Received a mandatory update (34) alert on my Samsung Galaxy S10e. You can delay the install, but not avoid it.
Now all internet access starts from a Google Chrome page. While you can uninstall Google Chrome, you also lose access to Google maps.
And those duckduckgo searches you thought were private....uh, no, they are sitting there listed as "recent searches".
Solution: flip phone.
Chrome might be necessary for Maps...not sure about that, but I have a Pixel 6 Pro running the latest everything and I use Brave and Dolphin with no problem. Internet is not forced through Chrome. Maybe try changing your default browser?
I have been thinking about going back to a cheap flip phone precisely because of thier updates that only makes things worse, not to mention the stupid messages I get about COVID tracking wanting me to install thier tracking app.
Ok, solutions that don’t require blowing money on a new phone and losing all stored data.
We always use bing search where possible.
Got a bunch of update alerts from goog and tube for close to a year now. Won’t do it. LG Trac Phone.
You can get a cheap flip phone for under $100. That’s your best bet for daily calling.
This basic Trac Phone pretty cheap. Google loaded on them though. Not sure about the recent ones
I just got a Pixel 6 Pro. Had a HTC U12+ that ATT said wouldn’t do HD voice when 3G voice goes away. Wasn’t too thrilled about that.
Solution: flip phone.
We’re tired of “you must live a crappier life” being called a solution.
As long as you use Android or Apple for your phone, there is nothing that can be done because their ability to spy has been built into the software.
They cannot track you with an softcover atlas.
Some of us don’t even carry those. Being unreachable except by land line is very nice.
I hate it too, but that’s how things roll with technology.
Being unreachable except by land line is very nice. You obviously don't have an answering machine/voicemail
Solution: HAM radios.
Which we’re going to need anyway.
I’m no expert, but I do have a Samsung phone. I don’t have Chrome installed, and don’t use Google Maps. (Waze works fine). I use the Samsung browser with Startpage for searches. No problems.
Opera Mini is a good browser for smart phones. You can get a “degoogled Android phone”. Check ebay.
If you use the privacy-oriented DuckDuckGo browser, the maps in search results are Apple Maps instead of google maps, and they include directions.
Probably not as good as an app, which has turn-by-turn navigation based on your changing location, but it won’t feed your google dossier.
