Is it possible to replicate KFC in an air fryer. Well, what I did was look up the 11 "secret" herbs and spices that goes into Kentucky Fried Chicken and mixed them together with 2 cups of flour. After marinating my chicken thighs in a cup of buttermilk mixed with an egg, I ran the thighs through the mixture and cooked them in the air fryer. You can see my opinion of how close it came to KFC but I also double checked it with others a couple of days later to get their opinions as well.

RECIPE:

3 tbs white pepper
2/3 tbs salt
2 tbs garlic salt
1 tbs celery salt
1/2 tbs ground thyme
1/3 tbs oregano
1 tbs black pepper
1 tbs dry mustard
3 tbs paprika (or 4 tbs for a bit spicier)
1 tbs ground ginger
1/2 tbs basil

Mix with 2 cups all-purpose flour.

Marinate 4 chicken thighs overnight in 1/2 cup buttermilk with egg beaten in.

After running the chicken through the powder mix, spray with olive oil on both sides.

Cook in Air fryer for 30 minutes at 380 degrees and turn when halfway finished.

(Note: Using a spray bottle to apply olive oil will have a much better effect on surface texture than applying by spoon.)

I usually do mine over charcoal with a good smoking rub and Applewood chunks.

You sent me on trip. The closest BB to me never has it in stock but one in the next city did. Was waiting for that price as I bought one for a gift a few months ago and she loves it. I thought I would have to wait for Black Friday sales to get it at that price again. So I got the only one in the area.

I abbreviate tablespoon TBS. It stands out better in the ingredients list.

I fry with saffola oil. If even has health benefits besides having a higher smoke point.

Same here but it was only a few more miles to get one out the door on the same trip. Otherwise I would have had it shipped to my house.

Oh, and air fryers make great in-door barbecue ribs...

Air fryers. Is there anything they can't do?

(PS: I love mine and after the microwave it is probably the most efficient kitchen device ever!)

Chicken only requires 325-350F, low enough for olive oil not to smoke. Just keep it in that range and it's fine.

Alright: You all got me hungry and I discovered the wife had 2 boneless chicken breasts defrosted in the fridge.

CLAIM!

It didn't last long. Crunchy, juicy, flavor just like I remembered (it was >6 years since I'd done this at home prior; long overdue). Not entirely happy with the pickles I had in the fridge (and I neither soaked them overnight nor used enough cayenne), but that's what I get for not planning ahead. I'll eat the 2nd one tomorrow (it was even BIGGER)...

...reheated in the

Air fryer!!!

The one time I’ve had KFC chicken, I wasn’t terribly impressed - maybe it was an off-day for that restaurant.

I do like Popeye’s spicy chicken; but I don’t have an air-fryer. (My brother just bought one and we are awaiting his opinion of its performance and usefulness.)

My sister has an air fryer and likes it and uses it a lot. I, personally, don’t need one more gadget, though a new Microwave is needed, and I would be hard pressed to give up my crock pot. ;)

We like our Instant Pot and microwave best.

I really don’t have room for another gadget; but my brother thinks that it will save him from heating up the whole oven - and the microwave is good for some things, but lousy at many others.

Agreed. I need to use my Instant Pot more. I’ve only used it to make BBQ ribs - and they were awesome!

My Microwave is just for re-heating or steaming veggies; I never actually ‘cook’ in it. Does anyone? ;)

My Great Uncle Earl was the first person in our family to get a Microwave. It was about the size of a VW Bug and it was FASCINATING to have him heat up a cup of water for you!

Magic! Witchcraft! Run for your uneducated, unscientific, Plebeian lives, LOL!

The Instant Pot is great for pulled-pork. We haven’t done a pork shoulder in it that didn’t turn out better than it would in the oven.

Good to know. Of all the meats, Pork is my favorite. :)

I don’t eat a lot of meat. I like the occasional beef hot dog; a good hamburger; and those little rotisserie chickens you get at the grocery store - (they’re very useful); bacon, of course - and the pulled pork that my husband makes in the Instant Pot is wonderful.

He has a special rub that he puts on it. After it’s done, he shreds it and crisps it up a little in the oven.
