The slur goes something like "you had one job to do", but because I'm a geek, immersed in IT and knowledgeable about webmaster things, I know it's a spoke in a wheel.
But when there's a Copyright List that every responsible FReeper goes to when posting from a source which isn't familiar, there's a reasonable expectation that following what's stated on the Copyright List page is correct.
I, for one, have MUCH BETTER things to do than to spend the time - repeatedly - posting something to FR only to have the message pop up "Post blocked due to copyright complaint".
What angers me is that if you took the time to write that code, you could also have expended a whopping minute to edit the HTML on the Copyright List page.
If it had only occurred once, no big deal. But this has happened to me on multiple occasions, this one on a day when I could rant about what is obviously failure to maintain the Copyright List in REAL TIME.
If it's not being maintained in real time, then it's inaccurate. So what's the point?
Oversight? 'On the list'? Didn't get around to it? It's "in the mail"? Or perhaps this function has been outsourced to non-English speakers?
I could care less. If the Copyright list is not accurate, get rid of it.
Rant over. Fire away; ICGAS.
I'll just be posting even more from bloggers :-)/s (i.e. "real" news)
“I, for one, have MUCH BETTER things to do than to spend the time - repeatedly - posting something to FR only to have the message pop up “Post blocked due to copyright complaint”.”
I highly doubt that given that you took the time to maje this post.
No soup for you.
Next.
good vanity/rant for a change. factual, direct, to the point. hope other vanities follow your lead.
What’s the point of it anyway? To honor the publisher’s display requests, individually? This seems tediously hard to maintain.
It’s been a long time since my University days and I know copyright laws can change, but back in the day fair use and citation clauses permitted you to excerpt small portions of any work, as long as you cited the author/source.
Media cite published articles all the time to discuss them as topics. I know that doesn’t mean FR wouldn’t be targeted for political motives, but why can’t the poster choose which portions to excerpt?
What a rant.
You should post this to your blog and then excerpt that blog here to Free Republic.
Ping to humblegunner of course.
You’re into coding? Maybe send them some code that validates a source link when you insert it into the provided box. Then it can say “headline link only” or my favorite “No Thanks” when the admin doesn’t like the source regardless of copyright and you don’t have to spend more time than that.
It’s been a while since I posted a fresh thread so I don’t recall if there is a preview and whether that would help abbreviate the process - preview it before you start typing post #1. Then I presume it will give you the alert.
Seldom post anything since others seem to get around to it.
But very occasionally run across something apt.
Do remember that copyright page was a mess.
(though one could, of course, ‘search’ for a name.
Heck, I’ve lost the link to it.

Blogs are gay, we know it’s true.
They’re really gay and so are you.
You post a blog and you touch yourself,
You stole the cookies from the Keebler Elf.
Burmashave.
You cared less enough to post a whiney thread about your butthurt.
That would likely be John Robinson. He's the awesome fellow who wrote the software that is allowing you to bitch at him.
John also does all the maintenance on it. And fixes the server(s) when the site hiccups.
You might want to thank him for all his hard work on your behalf. And then John, or one of the Admin Mods, will reply to your complaint, if they feel like it. They might, ya never know.
It doesn’t matter anyway!!!
Big Tech will be censoring FR in less than 6 months!
Did you donate today...I didn’t.
Rant most, think less. Good plan.
HG, you have outdone yourself. Kudos, I really did laugh out loud.

I expect you to be drunk at 5pm, but when did you start smoking the Devils Lettuce?
Ok Humblegunner, you finally posted something I like !
1979.
This happened to me a few times too. It would literally take a second to add the name of a news source to a list whenever the admin adds it to whatever line of code blocks the posts. Even if the list was just a single text file with the names of the blocked news sources in alphabetical order.
Freepers have twisted senses of humor...:)

Well now.
THAT is a very disturbing article.
Ever notice how protecting people from “dangerous misinformation”
(Or whatever the excuse may be...)
looks exactly the same as censoring true information you’re scared of?
In Free Republic’s defense, however, it is not outside the realm of
possibility that the code in question, came from outside of FR.
We had strange behavior the other day in a certain thread here when
clicking “post reply”, just sent you to the beginning of the thread.
Work arounds were quite tedious, until the problem “went away”.
There is a war on to maintain certain “narratives”, you may have noticed.
FR is indeed one of the battlegrounds.
