I ran across Harry Turtledove's Twitter feed and it turns out he is an Trump hating super liberal loon. He just accused Sen Josh Hawley of being a Nazi and that was the final straw for me.
I am pretty sure most (probably 90%) of his reading audience aka customers tend to be men who fall on the right of the political spectrum.
Stop making this liberal and other liberal scum any money. So if I may humbly ask for a boycott against Harry Turtledove. I won't post links to his Twitter and I am pretty sure it is his account but he also wrote an anti Trump book - so even if it was not his Twitter that is good enough for me to boycott him for life and I hope most if not all of you agree.
I liked his books until I met him at a 2002 book signing and found him to be an ugly, pompous jerk. That he turns out to be the exact type of loud-mouthed, secular Jewish collectivist that has done so much damage to American art and literature over the past several decades comes as no surprise.
I only post this here so I can be on record Turtledove is our enemy not just a standard liberal author.
Tried to read on his book about 20+ years ago.
First chapter was a bore, skipped to middle and it didn’t get any better.
Had forgotten this dude even existed until I read recent posts about him.
I never read his book about the South being given automatic weapons to win the Civil War because it sounded like stupid BS. I’m not surprised to learn that he’s an idiot.
It is like Turtrledive resents conservatives because they make up most of his audience and he just targeted them to make money not because he cares about history.
It was probably Remember the Alamo! by Kevin Randle (sine loco: Hall, 1998). You can get it at the American Book Exchange for about $7.00.
I used to read him but when he started padding out the lizard alien invasion series with boring repetitive novels I knew he was just another hack. Eff him.
His writing has been shit for ages anyway.
I remember reading a book or two but have forgotten what they were about.
I’m with you. If I start boycotting every writer whose personal politics I don’t like, I’ll miss out on a lot of good stories. I’ve read and enjoyed most of Harry Turtledove’s books.
He wrote a short piece once that I’d like to find again. It was just a page or two, written as if the New York Times were reporting on Pearl Harbor and the beginning of U.S. involvement in WWII. The reporting was so negative and defeatist that the U.S. ended up surrendering, as I recall. A lot of people here would see that piece as anti-American, no doubt, but I took it as a condemnation of the NYT.
Never heard of him
Don't get me wrong, I love a good debate but you don't get that on Twitter. All you get are insult contests and to see who can post the most "devastating" meme. I was last there in 2019. I got banned for saying "Transgenderism is a mental disorder" My point was that when your mind tells you one thing but your body tells you another, then yes you are going to have mental/emotional issues. They gave me 24 hours to take down my tweet or I would be permanently suspended. I told them to piss up a rope and haven't been back in over 2 years nor will I go back
There is no forum left to have an open honest debate with a sincere honest liberal with whom you happen to disagree. Hasn't been for decades. The "internet consultants" and other assorted trolls saw to that.
I read Guns of The South, and also enjoyed his Worldwar/Colonization series (1994-2004), where in the middle of WWII, reptilian aliens invade. Not very bright aliens, but technologically advanced.
I’m gonna have to read that one!
Boycott on! Oh, wait I guess I was already boycotting him because I’ve never heard of him or care about any of these social media mouth breathing asshats. One reason is I don’t walk around all day with my “device” in my hand worshiping at the alter of social media, as a matter of fact I don’t even have a “device”. So, Boycott on!
I liked Guns Of The South and honestly thought he’d died. I’ve got A lot of other good stuff to read so I doubt I’ll bother digging into his writings in the near future. I’ve noticed that several of my fav sci-fi authors all seems to be left leaning loons but damn if they still can’t write a good story, I buy their books used or half priced (never new), ignore the political leanings
And enjoy the stories.
That Turtledove is left leaning is not a surprise.
Neither is the fact he is apparently a jerk in real life.
That doesn’t mean he’s not a good writer. I gave up on World War and never started the alternate WWI series.
But the “Agent of Byzantium” series, the Videssos Cycle and it’s sequels, and a lot of his short stories (”The Road Not Taken”, “The Last Article”, and “Hindsight” for example) are especially good.
With the exception of Marion Zimmer Bradley* I generally do not boycott authors over their non-literary activities.
*Child Sexual Abuse is a different matter...
Sorry, never heard of him.
Bleh. Gave up on him years ago anyway - his books are all repetitive dreck. I somehow doubt he was clever enough to write a “alternate history book generator”, but after a couple, it sure felt that way.

I think they had a point. As long as Turtledove's views don't infest his writing, I'm not boycotting.
