The parents of mentally disabled patient Vincent Lambert, injured in a 2008 motorcycle accident, won a reprieve on May 20th hours after food and water was withdrawn.

That's when the Court of Appeal of Paris ruled to stop the killing until a UN panel could review Lambert's case.

But late last Friday (at 5 pm) France's highest court, the Court of Cassation, overturned the lower court ruling......

If you’re trying to discourage people from even reading an article about an innocent man being starved to death by the state, then your heirarchy of values is completely broken.

Also: you’ve made this thread about you and your corrupted priorities. Breath-taking egotism.

When I begin to label my comments BREAKING NEWS like this blog_ster I’ll concede your point, until then we are losing America to the political left and there is absolutely nothing I can do about the way France treats it’s citizens.

And it doesn’t sound like Lambert left any kind of an advance directive, though I’m wondering if France would have respected one, especially if it called for care to be rendered if he wasn’t brain dead or terminal.

Is the family being prevented from taking him from the hospital, as with the Charlie Gard case?

If they have the legal right to take him, they should take him out of there.

Oh, they call it "treating" him now. I see.

My bet is, unless the doctor has had a dying loved one, most docs don’t actally spend much time watching someone die over days/weeks.

Maybe that should be a part of residency, watch one patient through the dying process, at the bedside, til the last breath.

Several years ago my husband and I visited Italy. We arrived during a severe thunderstorm and took a cab to our pensione. It was still raining and there were no lights in the forecourt of our building. I tripped over a 4” marble slab (I think they were trying to stop motorbikes from using the tiny elevator in the building), smashing my face and nearly losing consciousness. I made it up to our minuscule room (at least the air conditioner worked) and told my husband ‘don’t let me die in Italy’. Before the evening was over, I had two black eyes and severe pain, but I wouldn’t go to any medical facility.

National Healthcare is not designed to do everything it can to help you. It is designed to do the least possible while absorbing as much taxpayer monies as possible. BTW, this incident was a few weeks after James Gandolfini had passed away in a Rome hotel and his room was burglarized after his death.

People wonder how Mengele could have existed. Doctors are caring people who take an oath to "do no harm". But here's the truth: if the state says it's okay to murder a man because he's defective, there will be doctors who happily take up the task. If the state says that a baby must be killed because he's defective and alternative treatments that could save him in other places are forbidden (as happened in the UK last year) there will be entire hospitals of doctors that justify it and campaign on behalf of the decision.

How much of a leap is it for the state to say "these people we are killing... wouldn't it be a big benefit to society if we learned some things from them first? Just some simple experiments, they cannot feel anyway. Will you?" and of course some would, happily, thinking "I'm making a difference!" And they are, just not the difference they think they are making.

I bet you're mad you weren't able to attribute it to your blog.

Maybe your crack team of reporters on the ground can score you a picture.

Because you're a news operation, yep.
