6.5 Creedmoor vs .308
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 3/27/2019 | J Blaha

Which is a Good Option as a SHTF Cartridge?
There are some great short action rifles available, some rifles being offered in 6.5 Creedmoor. There is another similar case, but not quite the same its the .308 Winchester. The 6.5 Creedmoor uses skinnier, lighter bullets and its faster downrange than the .308.

The 6.5 Creedmoor is very popular as a great selection for medium to long range (500-1000 yards) shooting. Which is why the military has incorporated this into some of their specialized rifles for long range targets.
Ballistic speaking, the skinny 6.5mm bullets perform exceptionally well, very closely matching the ballistic profile of a 300 Winchester Magnum, but with much less recoil and cost.

Its possible that for SHTF scenario the 6.5 Creedmoor is the better ballistic cartridge than .308 due to performance consistency. The 308 was designed in 1952 for a semi-automatic military rifle, while the 6.5 Creedmoor was designed in 2007 for better long range target performance in a bolt action rifle. Read the rest of this 6.5 Creedmoor vs 308.

Thanks. There might have been a little lady luck flying around too heh. The recoil is so nice and I use great glass that I could see my shots go. I saw the splash in the snow behind and adjusted heh.

Nice shooting! There’s always an element of luck. I practise all the time. I got home yesterday and practised snap shooting with my m-14. Just a few rounds before dinner. I keep my shooting mat and rest and ear defenders by my south door.

At 85, I think my few hundred thousand rounds of .30-06 will be a lifetime supply.

I really don’t care if you believe me or not. I have bigger fish to fry. They’re going to try the NZ firearm ban here too. Which I figured they would. So there’s no point in conversing with you. In the meantime, I’ll keep shooting coyotes at 1000 yards plus.

No, they’re all Albertan patriots like me. Oil and gas for three. One is the oil company bossman, one consultant, and two others were tradesmen.

It’s not as hard as it sounds really.

Oh, there would of been five, but one died since then. I’m not sure what happened, but two weeks ago he was here, and now he’s gone. 33 years old. It still doesn’t seem real.

Yep...always wanted one. Had a .270 bolt action...but a young fella needed/wanted a rifle...and I sold it to him.

So bot me that that lever action...

I will say right off that I have never made that long of a shot,
but I’ve been around plenty of guys that can put some serious distance between the muzzle and the round. Usually shooting .338 and up. I have no experience with the Creedmoor round. Most of my stuff is larger.

But I’m of this mind; if a Man says he made the shot, I give the benefit of the doubt that he made the shot.
A Man has no reason to lie. Especially out here among folks with a world of amazingly varied experiences.

I’ve been around firearms since I was eleven years old.
At 58 now, I find myself relying on scopes now more so than
iron sights, but I typically hit what I aim at.

I’ve shot competitively in IDPA, Three Gun, and other shooting sports, and I’m an instructor as well.

The man that taught me to shoot (one of my uncles) was a tough old WWII Pacific Marine vet. And he was an amazing man who is dearly missed. My father and all of his brothers were WWII veterans.

It’s been my experience that most folks have “that one shot” that we’ve made, at whatever distance, that is memorable. And we’re proud of that moment.

One thing I DO know, though, is this:

The Leftards hate ALL of us equally, regardless of how far we’ve shot.

Muzzles point out of the perimeter; because the Left are relentless assholes who WILL NOT STOP
until we make them stop.

All Same team, here. Friendly discussions, amongst Friends.

Bought a ‘70s vintage Marlin 336 many years ago, as a present for my sonny boy. He loves “Cowboy guns”, all his life.

It’s chambered in .30-30, a nice caliber; I think that caliber is the record holder for most North American ruminants taken...

I love lever guns too. Had a Marlin 1895G lever action in .45-70 years ago, but did the dumbass thing and sold it. Fun to shoot, but beat the Hell out of the shoulder.

RE .22:

.22 has been around for a long time, too. Check this out - Recently, a friend of mine inherited a few rifles from a relative that passed on. One of them was a Mauser training rifle in “Kleine Caliber” - .22 training rifle, looked like a Kar98. I’d never seen one of those before.

RE .30-30:
.30-30 has been “The Deer Killer” here and up in Canada for a long time. Reliably putting meat on the table since 1895...

Kar98...never heard of it.

I know plenty of people that shoot deer with a 30-30...

Meat on the table...is what's for dinner.
