Wow, so I was actually tuned in to KPCC - the local NPR branch affiliate for Los Angeles. And one analyst gave a thorough rundown about California voter registration and polling trends. Here are some points:
* Voters registering Independent of either party is up 169% as opposed to 25% for Dem and down 9% for Republican. This is especially true for new, young voters. Independents are the 2nd largest voting constiuent.
* Independent candidate for Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner is currently leading against his Democratic counterpart by 6 points.
* Californians express fiscally conservative views with socially moderate policies. (But even the latter is complex. The state voted against gay marriage for example in 2008, even though Barack Obama took the state by large margin.)
* So in conclusion, Conservative-minded people should run as Independent for a chance at winning!
SoCal ping
Ping.
In my own flaming leftwing commie dumpster fire of a state, Massachusetts, Indies are the largest group. Don’t let it fool you, most of them seem to register Indy because the democrat party is far enough left for their taste.
delusional Illegals vote dem. And that’s the driver. conservatives moving out for the last 10 years.
Poizner is just a left-wing Ah-noldbot. He might as well be a Democrat.
Independent = Full on Communist
“Oh we have both Parties in California: Communist and Socialist.”
In Other Words: California is turning into Massachusetts.
Very Interesting. Made me sick, when voting, to see on the ballot two Democrats only running against each other for the senate.
California Democrats will NEVER allow an independent to run for anything on the ballot. Democrats are fascists. That’s how it is here.
I’m not so sure about that. There may be a lot of independent voters, but the politicians are still all one party or the other.
Part of this story is that ‘some’ people (it might be in the 30-percent range) are just fed up with brand-name (Democrats or Republicans) politics. They don’t see either party has resolving issues or problems. It’s not just a national thing....it dwells now at the state level as well.
I think if you were a mid-30s California resident living in San Francisco....you probably are fairly hostile to the homeless problem, taxation, incompetence, and path ahead.
But the other side of this coin is that both parties have the funding and organizational routes covered. It’ll be hard to run as an independent.
You forgot to mention a key fact.
Large majorities of Black and Hispanic Democrats voted against gay marriage - not because they are moderates, but because they don't like gays.
The Democrats and the MSM were so humiliated, they claimed the “Mormon vote” and Mormon ads swung the election, even though just 3% of voters were Mormon.
“So in conclusion, Conservative-minded people should run as Independent for a chance at winning!”
Maybe not a bad strategy in California and one benefit of it is it staves off the 24/7/365 media agenda against anything named GOP. Frankly I’ll take an “Independent” that thinks like me on most issues over a RINO any day.
Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!

I know. I don’t like the new rules. It was a miracle that John Cox was even on the governor’s ballot or we would have had two Democrats running for governor. Picture that!
My former home in California has just replaced a good House Republican with a proudly bisexual airhead. Granted she outraised him by millions (and actually said she didnt take any PAC money) but he was really a good voice in the House. California cannot go far enough Left to get the total approval from Soros and Steyer.
