McDonald's reveals new breakfast sandwich

McDonald's is hoping a big new breakfast sandwich will help bring in more customers.

Triple Breakfast Stacks will hit menus on November 1. They're modified versions of McDonald's popular Egg McMuffin -- they will include two slices of American cheese, two sausage patties, bacon and an egg, The sandwiches are available on a McMuffin, biscuit, or McGriddles cakes.

The new items are designed to help McDonald's solve a problem: Fewer Americans are eating at the fast food chain. A new breakfast could help bring them back.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company said that the items are inspired by customized orders made by McDonald's (MCD) customers.

"People have been hacking our menu for years," said Mike Haracz, manager of culinary innovation. The triple stacks were inspired by those orders, he said. Linda VanGosen, vice president of menu innovation, said that customers have been requesting bigger sandwiches for breakfast.

McDonald's teased the announcement earlier on Tuesday during a call discussing its third quarter earnings.

Breakfast has been particularly challenging for McDonald's....

Use a bit of cooking oil and 1 egg, a touch of milk all mixed and put in a measuring cup. Microwave a minute to minute and a half. When it quits put cheese on it and cover the cup until cheese melts. It is just the right size for an English muffin. Add a sausage patty and there you have it.

Sounds smart. Do you cover the measuring cup in the micro? I get egg splatters.

Another thing Mrs. Kit likes is (using a micro-safe bowl) drop a couple eggs in, along with cheese, salsa, onions, whatever for an omelet. Whip it with a fork, nuke for about 30 seconds, take it out whip it, put it back for another 30, keep doing this for about two minutes or however you like the eggs.

No milk though. I found out a while back that the traditional way of making scrambled with milk actually makes the eggs more dense. Either nothing, or a little bit of seltzer water instead of milk. They'll be downright fluffy.

“(sorry about you being in Mass. - heh)”

I love it here——but daughter heading back to CO tomorrow-——weather permitting(on our end).

We do have IHOP-—but I haven’t been to one in YEARS.

With the pot roast sammie, I’m thinking some caramelized onions and a little cheese. Almost like a Philly cheese steak?

That’s exactly how it was explained to me by a waitress in Texas when I asked what it was. Struck me funny then. Still does. Accurate though.

Love McMuffins. I will be trying one of these.

I’ll have to do that. I was using bacon grease.

Maybe I’m buying the wrong brand of bacon.

Jimmy Dean Sausage is what I’ve always used but for the last few years the gravy seems to taste sweet to me and I don’t like that. I don’t know why they have to put so much sugar in everything now.

I’ll try some butter and creole seasoning. I like Tony Chachere’s. It used to be enough just to use the sausage grease and a whole bunch of pepper but that’s another thing that’s changed over the years there isn’t nearly the grease there used to be after frying it up.

I don’t cover it typically but maybe I should. I have done variations of Mrs. Kit’s omelet also. That seltzer deal sounds terrific.

My wife won’t do this, but when I make pancakes I put just a little bit of soda pop in the batter and I think if fluffs them nicely.

I eat about 2,000 calories a day. This new breakfast sandwich looks like it has at least 1,000 calories. I could handle it 30 years ago not now. It’s 3 or 4 cups of black coffee for me with a piece of toast and two hard-boiled eggs.

You could but it’s already got the onion soup mix in it.

Might be too many onions, but everyone is different. :)

It’s always been just right(to me anyway)with some provolone cheese or even just the meat. It’s very flavorful.

I usually add extra peppers and juice and cut back on the butter if I’m using a roast with a lot of fat in it.

I used to make something resembling Phily Cheesesteak sammies out of leftover barbecued steak and chicken.

Fry up a bunch of onions, bell peppers and mushrooms and while that’s happening slice your leftover meats real thin.

When your veggies are done, ship half of them over to another pan, add chicken to one, steak to another and whatever cheese you want and heat through until the cheese is melted and the meat is hot.

Pile some on a sammich roll and dinner’s done.

Had a friend that made a great living photographing food for major companies. He used crisco shortening for “ice cream” shots. A lot of the food ads are so fake.

I’ve found that *any* bacon grease has a LOT of salt in it.

I don’t think the salt is good for the roux when you first make it. Lard is best and easiest because there’s no salt. Otherwise I use salted butter with no problems.

The key to roux is equal flour and fat in a very hot pan (I use cast iron) and constant stirring. Takes me about 20 minutes to make a base. Pre-heat the cast iron.

I use a dutch oven usually. While the roux is going, that’s when I brown meats and veggies on another skillet or two.

I agree with the Jimmy Dean getting sweet. I guess I counteract that with lots of pepper, like you, and onions.

The only thing I’ve found these days that has enough grease to cook other stuff is Andouille. Man! Even the store bought stuff is good.

Now...if I could only find a way to buy some good boudin and not have to make it!

(90% of the people reading this have never had delicious boudin - pronounced “boo-dan” in Louisiana)

I’m loving this diversion from McDonald’s! Is there a FReeper recipe list? Put me on it.

Califreak - I know you get lots of good, fresh seafood, maybe you should start something? heh.

Actually I hate fish now that I’ve grown older and as a youngster I loved fish n chips and tuna sandwiches.

Sometimes I can eat shrimp but it has to be cooked in Tapatio sauce and butter.

If I make gumbo I use a mix, andouille sausage, chicken and okra.

Never even heard of boudin but it’s probably good.

There is a monthly food ping list that Jamestown1630 runs.

Some good cooks on that thread!

“It’s cheaper to grab a chicken fried steak skillet at Denny’s.”

Califreak,

My beloved is an extremely pickey eater. I don’t mean as doesn’t eat much... he chooses one restaurant for a particular item and will not order anything else at that place.

For Denny’s it’s their Ham & Cheese omelet with onions. They dice up the ingredients just as he would at the house and most places just have huge bits of ingredients. They’ve yet to disappoint him. LOL

McDonald’s eggs cause me to have an upset stomach, no matter which place I order them at and I’ve given up on them. Their Big Mac, however was always my weak spot along with their fries before they switched frying oil. Sigh.

I’m an extremely picky eater too. I kind of do the same thing your husband does. When I go to Denny’s I won’t order anything else!

I agree about the eggs at McDonald’s. It’s hard to mess up eggs, but somehow they manage to.

I always had a hard time deciding between the Bic Mac, Quarter Pounder or the Filet o Fish but that was back in the day when they were actually good.

Their fries are still okay I guess but the rest of it is just meh. I do miss the old days when everything was done fresh on location in real beef fat! The fries were just to die for.

Seems like before they started all this crap about health, salt, fat and cholesterol that we were all healthier and food tasted better.

Since I discovered the Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches there’s no need for me to ever go back to McDonald’s for breakfast.

True story...

I had a dog who was a great traveler. On the road, he loved eating a plain hamburger and drinking ice water from a paper cup...

However, he would not eat McDonald’s cheese...He was fine with their regular hamburger, but rejected their cheeseburger...Had no problem with any of the other brands of fast food cheeseburgers...Wonder what he knew that I didn’t...

And often we would have to get his order redone because they would put cheese on it...
