The escalation of hostility and violence in the United States is becoming undeniable. Over the past couple years alone, there have been politicians calling for increased antagonism toward Trump and his supporters, protesters (sometimes violently) confronting the police and ICE, violent clashes on the streets between Antifa and patriot groups, and many other instances that signify dark times ahead for the US. Almost one third of the nation believes a civil war is imminent. If this worst-case scenario becomes reality, who would have the upper hand?
Many on the right side of the political spectrum will hastily assume that they have the advantage because they have more guns. Republicans absolutely do own more guns, but many Democrats and Independents own guns as well. Will this advantage be enough to definitively win a war? It is hard to say.

OK, I’m clearly in the minority here.
I will stipulate that, if open conflict between armed country people and city liberals occurred, without any government involvement, and was allowed by the Federal government to play out until one side won and the other side lost, that our side would easily beat their side.
But that is not going to happen.
In my opinion, the only thing that could put the army of deer hunters into the field would be an illegitimate seizure of power by the Left. If they succeeded, the military would be fighting on their side. If they had an incomplete coup, the military would be against them, and their coup wouldn’t last a week.
In either event, the deer hunters would either take heavy casualties (and in my opinion surrender), or be unnecessary.
Now there are semi-illegitimate seizure scenarios to consider as well. The most likely is probably underway right now.
In that scenario, Ryan and McConnell are conspiring with Mueller (and I believe they are) to pull off a 48-hour impeachment if Mueller can just give them something to hang their hats on.
What patriots and sympathetic military men would then confront would be a President who was legally (technically) removed, with President Pence on the side of the coup (as I believe he is), and a unified chain of command swearing loyalty to the new government.
This would be a very, very difficult scenario for the deer hunters to deal with.
Can somebody tell me an alternate scenario whereby the deer hunters get to choke off the cities while the land forces sit on their hands and the President and Congress do nothing?
It didn’t work with Shay’s rebellion. It didn’t work with the Whiskey Rebellion. It didn’t happen in 1861. and it didn’t happen with the Bonus Army in 1932.

All US military equipment is logistics and maintenance intensive, period.
That's why force protection is a number one priority.
But, to my point again, protection is always a function of perceived threat.
If any US asset looks "vulnerable" to you, it's only because you are not considered much of a threat.

I believe this to be an accurate statement, since ..
it seems, recently , the higher you go in the military ranks, the more politically connected promotions seem to be,
and surprisingly less reliant on military tactics, ethics, and ability.
Recent candidates seem to be more of the " Go along, to get along" type, rather than based on leadership principles of yesteryear.
What sort of a man would you have to be to get a third or fourth star from Obama?

Not even Adolph Hitler with the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe at their peak wanted to tangle with the Swiss “nation of hunters”.
Give me several million hunters with the equivalent of sniper rifles (typical deer rifles) who know the terrain and have the support of the local people any day over a trained military. Time is on the side of the hunter who would be defending their own home territory.

The best potential combatants could do is compile a list of “enemies”. By knowledge of who they politically support or by their philosophical leanings, for example. It would be a murky conflict.

3.Given my military experience, I would have to say that amatures talk tactics, professionals talk logistics. It takes roughly 10 people to support one war fighter. The supply tail is key, once interrupted in the slightest, it changes everything.
Its only deadly when it is in the air. Very vulnerable on the ground.
That is it. Who will be the enemy? Leftists, terrorists, whites against blacks or browns and vice versa, poor against the rich, one political party against the other, bands of roving thugs just out for what they can grab? Americans of every race and culture have lost their mutual identity...we are Americans, first and foremost. Schools and government must instill patriotism again just like reading, writing and arithmetic.
Fairly often cellular systems are connected by fiber optic lines. Ditto on internet/control systems having trunk connections. The fiber lines are clearly marked with orange trim or a placard message “Optical Fiber-Do Not Dig!” for protection against backhoe assault.

People like Trump, his family and our top news people would be murdered in one night. At that point we'd better know what to do - in our 'hope for the best, plan for the worst' scenario we better have plans.
You are assuming the communist would have complete control of our military. That may not be a valid assumption. I think it more likely that if communists somehow got control of gov the military would either revolt or stay out of it. No way do I see our military siding with the communists that want to abolish our constitution.
Whatever force holds a city perimeter will have a two-front campaign, facing outward while the inner-city is appraising their backs.
