I used to be a PC user, but that all changed about 3 years ago when I went Apple. I love my Apple iMac and my Macbook Pro. Haven't had much in the way of problems, and Apple support is great.
My Apple Care on both my computers expired a long time ago. Thankfully I have an authorized Apple dealer where I can take them in if the need arises. Knock on wood, since 2011, I only had to have work done on the laptop, and that was about a year ago.
What are you doing on the computer besides surfing? I have a Dell that I never turn on anymore because I love my iPad. Have had one ever since they came out. Hubby kept saying.....dont see why everyone loves their iPads so much. Then I bought him one for his birthday a few years ago. Now he never turns his Dell on. We have an office with built in desks with 2 full stations, his computer on one side mine on the other, that we never use or go into.
iPads with a WiFi hook up only are affordable and youd be shocked how much you love it because of the convenience.
Similar experience to Kay. I had a co worker who fried her hard drive twice. Her computer would go on the fritz and I would have to touch it to make it work. Maybe she had the wrong vibes so to speak. People do have an effect on their computers at the faith level.
See post 15 of this thread. Now dont you feel like a jerk, an idiot, a fool, a moron, a jerk wad and a drooling lunatic? Of course you do.
After 25 years of breaking various computers, I'm preferring laptops, although other Dell laptops tended to break. When going to bed, using "Sleep" seems to have preserved this Inspiron.
I'm using a regular corded keyboard (and corded mouse), with the laptop perched on a box about 4 inches above the keyboard. The suggestion to use a Smartphone is a good one, as that's what I am doingeyes get tired of the tiny screen after a while, though.

No, I don't feel like a jerk at all. What YOU term "sarcasm", I would term way over the top to be sarcasm. Your remarks are not funny, teasing, or anything but malicious and nasty. Your entire post was just frankly unnecessary.
Please don’t rag on Resposibilty2nd. Leave that to me. You let him know he got under your skin which breaks cardinal rule #1. You have to be cool and calm about your responses. You could have said “If I thought you were mentally capable of understanding how rude you sounded I would have pointed it out to you. So I’m going to let it slide”. See how much better that was? Less emotion and more direct.
Now I’m not suggesting you apologize to him but you might try winning him back in your good graces. Try giving him a compliment to soften him up. Try “My aren’t you clever? I never would have thought of using nose hair to fill in a comb over.” See? By buttering him up like that he might slowly come over to your way of thinking.
There are VPN extensions and apps that you can add to Chrome.
I strongly suggest you check out MacSales.com
Used Macs are very reliable and affordable; buy the best you can afford.
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll check it out. My son has purchased refurbished computers from Newegg Inc., and has had very good luck with what he’s bought.
Here is a refurbished Dell for $82 and free shipping.

Windows 10 Home
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.9GHz Processor - 160GB SATA Hard Drive
4GB RAM Memory - DVD Player
USB WiFi Wireless adapter,
8 usb ports!
Good specs too. Just $82 bucks!
I have 3 laptops that I have been updating the software on. The oldest is a 11 year old Toshiba 1.6ghz cpu, 4gb ram memory with Windows 7 on it. (originally had XP).
The others are 3.0ghz and higher with double or more ram and with Windows 10. My desktop pc I put together has a Intel Core i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz and 32gb ram memory.
All 4 are fast pc’s. The oldest is as fast for internet and email as the newest. I do not play video games myself.
As an IT pro I second MB’s recommendation. 90%+ of electronics failures happen in the first few weeks/months. After that it is typically good for years. (Why I like refurbs) I say this from my garage computer with bad SATA, so it is booted from USB3 into Ubuntu.
PS. If your computer is a laptop I have seen them not even get to the BIOS screen if the battery is bad. (Only a few)
I bought a used W98 machine on ebay last year to run some of my old W98 games that won't run on anything later than 98. I replaced the video card and did a clean install of Windows from my W98 disc. Works okay but hangs on boot down sometimes.
BTW, I thank whoever out there put money in my PayPal account, but they won't let me log on because I've only used it once before, and since I don't text or know how to upload identification, I have to depend on them calling me at home. But right now, to be online I have to be away from home, and I can't take the call. I don't even know how much has been deposited. I may never get back in. I hope it doesn't wind up just sitting in there doing nothing, forcing whoever did this to have sacrificed in vain.
What I have gone through the past three weeks is absolutely ridiculous. Of course, I'm a technological illiterate and a computer jinx, so I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later.
I'll probably have to spend one more weekend offline, but as much as I hate to get another one, that's just what I'll do if I have to. This is my final attempt to save my old files (other than maybe have the hard drive transplanted; I don't know if that saves files or not).
Please forgive me for driving you all nuts with my being driven nuts. I sincerely hope and pray that one way or another, I will be online from home once more, one way or another, sometime next week.
I miss you all so much.
PS: I have received your PM's and will try to respond to them later (beli neder). Right now I'm focused on, if not getting my old computer fixed, at least finding out what in sam hill happened to it.
After three weeks in limbo at the first shop where the guy was doing trial and error, I have taken it to another and now we know what the problem was: it was the CPU, which had burns on it. He said it looked like water damage, and I am awfully bad at sitting my drinking glass on the computer desk!
He is currently pricing CPU's. He said it would cost the same as a new computer, but between paying for a new one and the same price for my old one with its complete hard drive, I'll take the latter! It's also possible he'll decide that it would be cheaper to transplant the hard drive into another computer. We'll see.
To the kind person who deposited money in my PayPal account: I thank you from the bottom of my heart, but please just be aware that I am unable to access it until I can log on at home, receive a phone call, and confirm that it is indeed me. As is it's locked up as "suspicious," and I can't answer a phone at home while I'm at the public library.
The past month has been awful. It's been like being locked in a closet. I so look forward to being with you all again soon!
