Couple calls it quits over Trump: Wounds still raw after bitter U.S. election

Burning passions over Donald Trump's presidency are taking a personal toll on both sides of the political divide. For Gayle McCormick, it is particularly wrenching: she has separated from her husband of 22 years.

The retired California prison guard, a self-described "Democrat leaning toward socialist," was stunned when her husband casually mentioned during a lunch with friends last year that he planned to vote for Trump – a revelation she described as a "deal breaker."

"It totally undid me that he could vote for Trump," said McCormick, 73, who had not thought of leaving the conservative Republican before but felt "betrayed" by his support for Trump.

"I felt like I had been fooling myself," she said. "It opened up areas between us I had not faced before. I realized how far I had gone in my life to accept things I would have never accepted when I was younger."

Three months after the most divisive election in modern U.S. politics fractured families and upended relationships, a number of Americans say the emotional wounds are as raw as ever and show few signs of healing....

Absolutely the case. Though at first he said he was supporting Hillary, as I said. I think it was really hard for him to accept the reality that his party was not the same Democrat party at all.

Or maybe more common than I think.

I would be surprised if it were, at least to some extent because the press would have you to believe that the majority of women supported Hillary. However, if I remember correctly Hillary actually lost a majority of women in the election.

BTW, it is not because my wife is treated like a subservient person who is not a strong woman in her own right. She is every bit my equal, and as far as I am concerned, the better half by a large margin.

When I go out, the first thing I ask is are they pro or anti Trump.

At the beauty parlor today, I heard anti-Trump rants non-stop. A Turkish hairdresser and his customer, a (what else?) aging liberal lady, were discussing the travel ban.

Meanwhile my own hairdresser timidly asked me what I thought of Trump. I told her that I generally supported him. She agreed, but we kept it quiet. Lucky the Turkish guy wasn't the one doing my hair, or I would have ended up looking like a cocker spaniel.

I'm lucky to work with mostly Trump supporters, but I imagine it is difficult for many elsewhere, where the hate has become obsessive and palpable. My own family is raving liberal, and I have had to unfriend several FB people.

I could visit and enjoy them at the neighborhood block party, but the value system prevents my trust in them as "friends."

I find that a defining feature of so many liberals. They are stylish and entertaining -- just like Hollywood -- but incapable of any relationships beyond short-term or superficial. They'll liven up any cocktail party but become tiresome or even creepy after a while when you realize, after talking to them, that they have a screw loose.

this is serious because my radicalized son actually thought about not letting us see our grandchildren over Trump....don't know how he figured we voted for Trump since we never talked about him nor had signs or badges or anything...he just figured....well we did....

It saddens me....and angers me....

Some (not many) but some states have “Grandparent’s rights” codified into law.

She didn’t win white women.

But she won women YUGE by 12 points.

Thank God men turned out in droves this time and black guys only went 80 percent for her.

They are a little bit the unsung heroes of this election.

Another 15 percent go for hillary like they usually do, and maybe we dont win some of those states.

Though I know it’s not a GOOD number, any theories on WHY black men dropped substantially but black women still voted 96 percent for her?

Actually just the opposite. She liked Donald and only Donald. I liked Cruz first.

I don’t hate women. I recognize female nature and hypergamy. But I have no love for any woman anymore, now that I realize that romantic love is just a delusions.

I just think the courts (family & divorce) give to much power to women. And women, being only human, tend to be seduced by that power and run with it, like most people do when they can. Very few people turn down power. It is like the Ring of Power in “Lord of the Ring”.

I’ve adapted to take into account how women are. I will never marry one again because the government takes the side of women, because of scumbag elite males who don’t care what happens to the common guy.

I will never get one pregnant again... because government.

And I’m not a homo. I have two girlfriends, and as soon as one of them gives me a good enough reason, I will leave her in favor of the other one.

I am like the Borg in Star Trek: I analyze and adapt.

Most men make the mistake that every woman they meet is going to treat them like their wife, mom, sister or aunt. That is a mistake.

Remember, women have no loyalty. Two females can be heated enemies one minute, and best friends the next.

Many women will trade freedom for (perceived) security and end up with neither. I think that's a hard wired trait.

My solution? Trust no one, especially a female. Remember also that a marriage (post-physical affection) is a business arrangement. Maintain it as such and you won't be disappointed.

Since my separation last spring from the wife who cheated on me 4 times, I’ve been with:

1) A woman who turned out to still be married! 2) A younger woman who was a former Army soldier—but single mom of THREE! 3) A woman who I am pretty sure tried (and ultimately failed) to use my credit card # to try and charge a rental car (long story) 4) A woman who lives 45 minutes away and 5) An Asian-born woman who work and lives in the same areas I do. [I am currently seeing both #4 and #5, and both are “in love” with me, such as it is]

In the first 3 months of my separation, I used my fast reading speed (about 500 pages an hour) to read about 50,000 pages on love/romance/sex/marriage/dating in the various traditional/Eastern/MGTOW/MRA/2nd wave feminist/3rd wave feminist/neurology/evolutionary biology/psychology perspectives.

I was able to explain every puzzling behavior of my ex, that even she could not explain when asked, as well as ultimately determine that romantic love is not real, and is not love. I am unable to feel that which I do not believe in. I have felt not a single emotional connection to any woman since my various epiphanies last year—no matter how long I’ve been with them, including the one time I screwed my ex as part of an experiment on female “reverse monkey branching”.

Since I no longer believe romantic love is real, and is simply a delusion, I am now incapable of falling in love. I even am introspective enough to know that had I been single 2, 5 or 10 years ago, I would have probably fallen in love by now with one or two of the 5. I now know that I was younger and dumber, and simply bought into the lies and misinformation and crap peddled by society about “love”, etc.

I’ve taken the “red pill”. I cannot go back to the ignorant state I existed in before. No marriage, ever again. My 18-year old, bless his soul, has come to the same conclusions about current Western societies and how they treat men (as disposable, expendable beasts of burden to be used to keep women comfortable and prosperous). He is a big fan of Stefan Molyneux, too, and of the various MGTOW. We’re both working on my 13-yr old to vaccinate him against how society favors women and its War on Men.

My son and I are generally amused to watch the Muslims raping and killing the European socialist libtards, and neither of us have any sympathy for Europe. (I wouldn’t give a rat’s behind if all 600 million Europeans were rounded up by Muslims in cattle cars and killed in concentration camps. Europe is a collection of dead, decadent, feminized nanny-state societies that God should destroy with sheets of fire.)

Women have base evolutionary drives to 1) favor security over freedom 2) hypergamy i.e. trading up current male for one with more money or power and always trying to date above themselves 3) collectivism.

Traditional societies kept female nature in check by laws that favored keeping families intact, by guilt and shame (e.g. slut shaming, out-of-wedlock pregnancy shame, etc), and men being in charge. Now modern “tolerant” society has taken away the controls, women are generally acting out their BASE evolutionary drives albeit in a modern day context.

I’ll be officially divorced in 4 months from my ex (that cheated with 4 different guys). I will never get re-married.

Unchecked (by laws or society) female behavior is essentially insanity and is a security threat to me.

Marriage is in fact a business arrangement, but I will not enter into a business arrangement with someone who can break all the terms of the contract and end it when they want, and who the laws will favor after they end it. (women push for 3/4 of the divorces). I will not sign a business contract with either the Mad Hatter or a woman.

Modern marriage is about the most poorly-engineered business contract ever. Imagine if all business contracts were operated the way marriage and divorce law operates. LOL.

Sorry to hear about your marriage. My sister broke up three of them (with children in each one) and we told her we'd kill her if she got married again.

They're all nuts on some level.

your dismissal of 6000 years of western culture and its beauties and buildings is terrifying to me.

Not all Europeans agree with the elites. The backlash is coming.

Western Civ is way worth saving.
