At the beauty parlor today, I heard anti-Trump rants non-stop. A Turkish hairdresser and his customer, a (what else?) aging liberal lady, were discussing the travel ban.
Meanwhile my own hairdresser timidly asked me what I thought of Trump. I told her that I generally supported him. She agreed, but we kept it quiet. Lucky the Turkish guy wasn't the one doing my hair, or I would have ended up looking like a cocker spaniel.
I'm lucky to work with mostly Trump supporters, but I imagine it is difficult for many elsewhere, where the hate has become obsessive and palpable. My own family is raving liberal, and I have had to unfriend several FB people.
I was back home in Chicago some months having oysters at McCormick and Schmidts at the bar. A guy sitting next to me starts it about Trump, and the bar tender is nodding his head in agreement. It was pretty benign, until he said,
“Yeah, I did some work for Trump about ten years ago, setting up a big convention for him at McCormick place etc...When it came time to pay me he stiffed me.”
Then out of the blue, like a reflex, I said...”Oh, F you. I’m sure he did.”
This guy was fairly good size, and immediately backed down, although I wasn’t in his face, just annoyed because I knew he was full of crap.
Anyway, we were watching the Cubs, and that led to us talking about growing up in Chicago, and we actually had a delightful time.
I told him Trump was going to win. He laughed. And I said, you watch he’ll be a great president for all the people.
