The Regency Beauty Institute has closed after more than 50 years of educating cosmetology students.
The institute announced on its website that it permanently closed on Wednesday, impacting all 79 campuses, including the Miami Twp. campus at 2040 Miamisburg Centerville Road.
This is incredibly difficult news for everyone affected: especially our students, teachers, and staff, Regencys website says. We recognize that some of you may be finding this out for the first time by reading this. We are truly sorry for the abrupt nature of this information.
The institute said that it does not have the money to continue to run the business.
There are multiple intertwined reasons: declining numbers of cosmetology students nationwide, a negative characterization of for-profit education by regulators and politicians that continues to worsen and, in light of these factors, an inability to obtain continued financing, the website says.
The institute said it is not being forced to close because of wrongdoing.
We held ourselves to high educational and ethical standards, the website says. The environment is simply not one that allows us to remain open. We diligently explored a range of strategic options that would benefit our students, teachers, and staff and allow us to remain open. Unfortunately, those efforts were not successful.
There will be no tours and no guest services, the website says.
Students will be able to return to the schools to pick up personal items from 3-5 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Schools will not be open at any other time.
More information for students can be found here.
Earlier this month, another beauty school, Carousel Beauty Colleges, announced it was closing all five of its area locations.
Obama through the Department of Education, has been forcing “for profit” schools and colleges to close throughout the country. We had Heald College shut down here by DOE allegations, which left a ton of students in the lurch.
They can always learn their trade on youtube.
Study on your own, take practice tests online then go get your license or whatever you need. Some tests require a certificate of attendance and some don’t.
They can’t get certified that way - and that’s necessary in all 50 states if I am not mistaken. We’re not talking about someone learning how to braid her sister’s hair. We’re talking about people becoming certified for a government regulated trade/business.
Certainly I would not sign with any of them until I saw them...3-5 years back.
When they go BK you lose your money and any chance of completing the program...and there are some good programs.
Sometimes worse, you lose that time.
But...Cosmetology? Who would spend a bunch of money to do that?
I tested out for my bachelors.
Obama wins again. Take away economic and career and personal opportunities from people. Make them entirely dependent on government welfare ‘benefits.’
they can be much better controlled this way
I do proctoring tests for the fed’s and the state on everything that requires a license. Some trainers need a CPR and a first aid endorsement before they can test, there are other requirements and endorsements needed for other exams.
So much for my second career.
Professor youtube has been a great help to me.
That’s true, but in the long run younger kids are going to be discouraged by their parents or friends not to attend college even if it’s “free.” Because they’ll be enslaved by the government to do some make-work to pay it back, or they’ll be indoctrinated into something they’re not interested in. So a lot of them will skip higher education altogether and learn the trades or hand-on work.
Yup. ITT Tech. My old alma mater Brooks Insitutue.....
The cost and complexity of staying in business is made impossible by the Feds..
There’s more to cosmetology than putting on lipstick or eye shadow. It is a respected skill and the best in the business are worth their weight in gold.
And there's the problem right there.
Just ponder for a few moments if the DOE and its professional criminals were to apply the same standards to state, private and public Colleges and Universities .... the ones that have 50% non-graduation rates, 6 years to obtain a 4 year degree, undergrads and masters waiting tables at Dennys, $100,000 student loans for a Degree in General Studies, etc.
True, but there are serious health issues involved so it was bound to happen for “public safety” reasons.
Cosmetology? My wife worked at a very prestigious salon in Leavenworth that catered to officers wives. In 1999 the last year she worked she made $60,000 plus about $12,000 in tips. The school was about $12,000 in 1991.
It was a great investment for her.
I guess a BA in some lberal arts BS and working for mimium wage would be a better investment?
My mother is an inspector for NACCAS which is a contractor for the Department of Education. They determine if a school can be accredited and receive student loans. She said all for profit schools are under extreme pressure to close from the DOE.
“Who would spend a bunch of money to do that?”
I don’t know about spending a bunch of money, but hair care, etc. is a big business.
and some of the stuff, like perms and hair coloring, you certainly do want a trained person.
It’s OK, per Obama this will all be done by illegal immigrants now, so that’s cool.
