Actually it's my husband. A woman from the National Opinion Research Center (U of Chicago) showed up at our door yesterday to follow up on a letter from the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services branch of Dept of HHS) sent to him (don't remember getting one) to participate in the Medicare Beneficiary Survey.
I think he should ignore this.
Does anyone know anything about this? Should he participate?

The short answer is NO!
Ugh; he thinks he should do it; he thinks he’ll be “flagged” if he doesn’t. I told him have a bigger “flag” on him if he does. Not sure I’m going to convince him.
I surely would not allow the “surveyors” into my home.
I’ve never heard of such. Why would they show up at your door? Don’t give them any information. If they are legit, they should send you something in the mail.
They should have a copy of said letter to show you. I would advise against it. Sounds fishy.
Insurance scam of some kind...want to sell something to “ enhance your coverage”!
You would have to believe the GOVT. cared enough to go to every senior!
Get him a new red white and blue “FLAG”.

Haven’t heard of Medicare folks going door to door. I would not do it and would also do some research to find out if it’s a valid deal.

Not saying if you should or you shouldn’t, just providing you with facts.
A NORC rep showed up at the very elderly lady that lives down the street door. The rep was very persistent. The lady called Mrs. Mad and we went down there and made it clear that the rep wasn’t welcome and was now trespassing. He left but was clearly not happy.
I wouldn’t do the survey myself. .gov knows everything they need to know about everyone already. This survey is just a waste of taxpayer money.
History does not give this statement a high level of confidence! Not specifically for the NORC but for any database, like this, that contains hacker-valued data. As for participation, it is true that such surveys can assist but conversely personal information given out adds to personal risk! A solution might be to only answer questions that do not reveal personal info.

There are three categories of answers you should study and carefully choose from:
1. No.
2. Never.
3. Not at all.
I learned years ago never to answer any survey, none of them. There is no way of knowing just how your information is to be used, especially if your name and other personal info is attached to it.
Now add to that, that this is the fed gov, you can safely assume your answers may be some how or another used against you.
The US Census is a survey. I answer only the questions required by the Constitution. Screw the rest.

Thank you. We immediately found this info yesterday so in that sense know it’s “legit”. I just tend to agree with the side that says “no way.” Mr Lacey so far doesn’t.

FWIW: A year or so ago, we received one of the off-year US Census surveys in the mail. I tossed it. My husband thought answering it was the thing to do. He rescued the survey, filled it out (I can’t recall, but it was probably either one of those Small Business surveys or one on rural residents). End of story. No follow-up or consequences.
This UofC operation looks legitimate, so if your husband wins out, likely there will be no fall-out.
Sometimes, in a marriage, a victory isn’t worth the battle.
