Russell Moore Says Christians Should Defend Religious Freedom for Non-Christians, Including Muslims

Baptists and other Christians should defend religious freedom for non-Christians, including Muslims, because it is morally right, as well as helpful to their own cause, says Southern Baptist religious liberty leader Russell Moore.

Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), advocated for religious freedom for people of all faiths in a blog post Wednesday (June 8), which came two days after a Baptist state editor questioned providing such liberty for Muslims.

Religious freedom is not a government benefit “but a natural and inalienable right granted by God,” Moore wrote. “At issue is whether or not the civil state has the power to zone mosques or Islamic cemeteries or synagogues or houses of worship of whatever kind out of existence because of what those groups believe.

“When someone makes such a claim, that person is not standing up for Jesus and his Gospel, but standing against them,” he said. “To empower the state to command or to forbid worship is not fidelity to the Bible.”

There was an article this week about the decline in the SBC membership which was put forth as evidence of a decline in Christianity in America. I think Russel Moore has more to do with the SBC decline rather than any general decline in the Baptist Church - more and more Baptist churches are rejecting SBC affiliation.

So Christians should defend mussie atrocities? It is in their so-called religion.

So Christians should support the group committing genocide against them in the middle east?

Sure, and maybe Jews should support Nazis (eye roll)

There was also an article out earlier this week stating that actual tithe’s from SBC affiliated churches are funding the building of mosques, specifically in NJ.

Something really stinks like sewage within the SBC IMHO.

Exactly what religious freedoms must we defend?
How somebody prays, dresses, eats or conduct their lives is not a problem.
When people kill, maim, rape or bombs in the name of their religion, must we really defend that?
My answer is no, we have the right, duty even, to be selective and not accept the unacceptable.

Christians should defend religious freedom for followers of all real religions.

Since when has Christians respecting other religions been a problem?

Why isn’t this stupid person insisting that muzzies respect other religions, including Christians?

I’ll stand up for the religious freedom of Muslims just as soon as I see Muslims standing up for the religious freedom of others...

In reading the article, it appears that Moore is taking a reasonable position that any liberty-loving Constitutionalist would support. Perhaps it is difficult for some to see that if we empower the government to say “you can’t build a mosque in this location because it is a mosque” then ultimately we will empower that same government to zone and regulate Christian churches out of existence too.

As another example, I would object to and oppose the actions of a government that tried to force a Muslim or Jewish restaurateur to cater a KKK rally and serve bacon cheeseburgers just as much as I object to government forcing Christian bakers or photographers to participate in same-sex weddings.

It is interesting the way socialists approach theological concepts for when it comes to Islam they are not the only ones who refuse to approach the issue. That even includes leading Christian clergy including Pope Francis.

Followers of Mohammed not only claim, but truly believe that God has authorized them to kill those who refuse to submit to their version of Gods will.

That is a basic tenet of that religion. A claim which goes unchallanged which makes it a theocratic creed advocating a form of government that is to replace the existing one.

While it is understandable for atheists which most socialists are, not to approach that claim on a theological basis. But believing by bombing and killing those who believe in it will end its practice, which will not. Islam as construed with its portrayal of a mercyless evil deity approving using deception and deceit is an abomination which must be discredited and condemed.

And that can only be done by attacking its assertions and tenets. Certainly not by ignoring and deying they do not exist. .

It is bewildering why many Christian clergy concerned about quote, political correctness, unquote, refuse to address what an insult to God islam is and worse yet are unable to condem then convince and convert its advocates and adhearants they are followers of an evil creed .

The Koran which was not given to Mohammed by God but by some angel .Demanding enforcement of sharia law which draws heavily from the Torah. It is a pseudo religious concoction using monotheistic selected texts, taken and misconstrued from the old (bible) and new testaments.

Both of which cite the Almighty has granted free will to accept or obey his laws and God is the final judge not man: Sodom and Gormora ,and Let he who is without sin cast the stone, are outstanding examples from both books. One deals with sin and Gods decision toward a group the other to an individual, neither is left to man.

Yet followers of Mohammed under the severest of penalties are forbidden to read either which would refute that assertion in a creed which institutionalizes disgusting arab tribal views, mores, observances, and customs. Claiming adhearants are authorized by our Creator to demand submission to it or suffer an ignominious death administered by followers of Islam simply because they answer the call to prayer 5 times a day.

Let’s make sure we defend political and military Islam as well. It is not a religion as the west thinks of religion. This has only been going on for 1400 years, all these people need to do is get informed a little.

If Christians don’t support religious freedom, Christianity will be the first victim. Every law they are trying to push againot Muslims, is intended to be used against Christians.

We’re not saying that though. We’re saying “you can’t build a mosque because mosques give aid and comfort to our enemies”.

And when the government decides that Christians "give aid and comfort to our enemies" or like the democrat party has already decided that Christians ARE the enemy? It's ok with you for the government to decide that the first amendment doesn't matter anymore?
