To paraphrase the Declaration of Independence, when it becomes necessary for a people to alter a course of events deemed destructive to the preservation of liberty, any available legitimate means to accomplish this should be wholeheartedly embraced and pursued in all due earnest.
The Constitution of the United States of America has been hollowed out. It is a dead letter. Even with its myriad of checks and balances the Constitution is not ultimately self-enforcing.
But fortunately, the Founding Fathers in their great wisdom enabled We the People to reclaim our constitutionally secured rights in just such a situation as we now find ourselves. I refer to the provision in Article V which requires that Congress call for an amendment-making convention on the application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several states. This makes for an important alternative to the way in which every amendment to the Constitution has been proposed in the pastby a 2/3rds vote of both houses of Congress.
The Founders have provided the American people the means to make necessary reform even when Congress has been hopelessly compromised.
The plunder of our nation never stops. Special interests today are legion, exerting grossly disproportionate influence as compared to the general interest. The scale and momentum here is so great as to render the Constitution...

I love you, Coach, but I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one.
If The Constitution is not being followed as you acknowledge, then what good would it do to amend it?
The real power is in the 9th and 10th Amendments. We need to educate our fellow citizens that THEY have the power to enforce The Constitution by pestering their elected local and state representatives and persuading them to take back the power we DELEGATED to them or they will be replaced.
Either way, it's going to be a long, hard struggle, but exposing our fellow citizens to the 9th and 10th amendments is the way to go.
Thanks for all your hard work, Coach. It's much appreciated.
Nothing is "self-enforcing". People have to do the enforcing.
As usual humans are the weak link.
Quite. Those who are not persuaded by words on paper will not be persuaded by more words on paper.
Repealing the 16th and 17th amendments could be done at an art. V convention. That might save the republic.
I know the 17th Amendment has to do with how Senators are elected, but where was it established that The House will consist of 435 members?
It seems to me that if any part of The Constitution should be repealed, it should be the part that set the number of Representatives at 435.
That might've been fine when there were 100 million Americans but now that there are over 330 million, it seems that number should be upped quite a bit.
As it stands, what we have is a Senate and a Mini Senate.
Agree
No member of the Uniparty acknowledges a superior power. It is why Scotus breezily established fag marriage and condoned and participated in rewriting Obamacare. It is why Obama flouts the Law every day.
Yet, there is a superior power. When We The People meet in convention it is in a sovereign capacity that no president, congress or scotus can supersede or overrule.
The solution to the problem of centralized government is obvious. Decentralize the government; amend the structure of government such that power is diffused once again across the member state governments.
A single convention of the states that proposed repeal of the 17th Amendment would have enormous downwind effects. It would put the Uniparty on notice that a higher power is looking over their shoulders and stands ready to reverse tyranny.
Article V ping!
Properly designed institutions do the enforcing.
It is why the Framers’ design is so complex. If freedom was to depend on a virtuous people, the Framers didn’t need to spend an entire hot summer designing the Constitution.
"A standing convention could institutionalize oversight of the Constitution with a version of a permanent committee controlled by the states as an ultimate guard, always ready to act with future proposed amendments, in the spirit of eternal vigilance. Since the forces arrayed against us never cease their assault against liberty, our guard should never be let down. The same structure needed to propose the Liberty Amendments can be kept permanently in place to this end."
And those institutions are run by....?
Thanks for the ping.
Just curious. Have you asked the ping list to sign up at www.conventionofstates.org? Mark Levin asked his audience to sign up and get involved the other night. I did.
IOW, the Framers got it right in 1787.
Good point. No, I have not specifically mentioned it to the ping list. Next time.
Nice goal. What's your plan?
The power of a Convention of States is to propose amendments making structural changes that could not be ignored -- such as term limits on Congress and the Supreme Court, repeal of the 17th Amendment, a State Repeal Amendment, limits on both spending and taxation, etc.
We are not helpless in the face of this tyranny. Let's use the tools the framers gave us. Remember, Article V is part of the Constitution we all want enforced.
> “If The Constitution is not being followed as you acknowledge, then what good would it do to amend it?”
You are really short-sighted. Do you think you are the only one that can think to make such statements?
Most of us when confronted with the reality and the proposed Article V solution REACT AND JUMP to statements like yours BUT KEEP IT SILENT!
Why keep it silent? Because most solid intellects keep thinking a little further so they keep silent about first thoughts. It’s called refraining from BLURTING OUT.
Because I can see your deficit in intellectual acumen I won’t post specifics for your learning experience how wrong you are because of your failure to THINK A LITTLE FURTHER.
So now it’s your turn.
You can continue with a chip on your shoulder and make yourself look stupid which is already evident.
Or you can be a man and show some humility and apologize to greater minds than yours. THEN THINK A LITTLE FURTHER. And once you’re thought a little further, come back and tell us what you got. And I’ll tell you if you’re warmer or colder. But you are going to do the work because I’m tired of FR dunces BLURTING OUT BULLSH*T!
And if you don’t do the latter, then be prepared to be put on the ignore list as a useless incorrigible dunce that would be better suited on some commentary section on Politico, Salon or the Huffington Post.
