Hello all.
Asking for more prayers for my father.
Today he is at Hopkins to have triple-bypass surgery.
This is harrowing enough, as is the thought of "recovery" with them cutting bones for it, but last night I just got a call from my aunt (his sister) and she stated that she and my uncle (brother), who is paralyzed, have a defect in their spines and that my dad should ensure surgeons are aware of this because of possible genetic similarity.
I called my parents this morning to tell them (my aunt oddly did not mention it to them). But I want to ensure they did it, yet my mother doesn't seem to have any cell phones on.
Bottom line, we don't want him to end up like my uncle - paralyzed!
Praying with you!

I’m quite aware of that. ;-)
Dad is 77.
There is much background to this, but I am wordy as it is and didn’t want to belabor it.
The spine may be a complicating factor, as is his past very bad leg embolism (currently on Pradaxa, too). It gets me quite nervous.
I haven’t had time to post or even get too worried about it because it happened so fast. We expected something, but I didn’t know anything was going to happen until we got back last week from vacation (they didn’t tell us while away) - and that was “just” a stenth-type angioplasty Monday. They pulled out and said it was too bad and needs to come in today (or maybe not - see other comment).
Prayers on the way..
God Bless..
I’m praying for great health for your Dad and comfort for your family. Hopkins is a very good hospital.. if that is any comfort. (((Hugs))) Mom
Prayers just offered.
Definitely get some ASAP gel and silver biotics as well as the hand sanitizer Bio-Sense. Family and Friends use all three when facing hospitalization and the return home as well as daily use. I am a volunteer at a local hospital, school, and church and use the products all the time. The spray provides at least 24 hour protection. Can’t say enough what the products have done. . . I am appalled at the lack of sanitation practices in the hospitals.
but more importantly are the prayers to the GREAT PHYSICIAN! Claim Psalm 91 for your loved ones.
FATHER GOD,
We thank You that You are control of all things. Nothing is impossible for you. You fashion hearts.
We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, by Whose stripes we are healed, that You direct the surgeons as they perform this bypass surgery. May the blood of Jesus cover every cell in OILline Rebel’s father.
We thank You for Your promises of healing.
In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
It probably won’t happen at Hopkins, but last year I had what I thought would be a minor surgery performed at a back-water hospital (name with held) and I “flat-lined” on the operating table because of how I answered the Anesthesiologist’s question, “Do you have Sleep Apnea?”
I answered, “NO”, and my answer should have been, “I don’t know.”
The Anesthesiologist, instead of taking my word for it, should have asked, “How do you know you don’t have Sleep Apnea? Have you had a Sleep Study done to ensure you don’t have Sleep Apnea?”
As it happens, I have Sleep Apnea and didn’t know it, so I found out the hard way that if you have Sleep Apnea, some types of anesthesia will kill you. Obviously, the doctors managed to bring me back, but it could have just as easily gone the other way.
My prayers go out for your father.
Will be praying.Send a text they get it faster.((((Hugs))))
DJ that is very interesting! I guess everyone should keep in mind “I don’t know” when they really haven’t had things checked!
My dad is a bad snorer, but he has never done a sleep study.
Of course, my husband is MUCH WORSE, horrible, but yet when he finally went to a study (including follow-up recently), he gets low marks (he also got up in the night alot and blamed his bladder). Thankfully he has been on a CPAP since that first time (for my sanity and our marriage), but by their measures he’s “not bad”! Like hell!
Prayers up.
I had quadruple bypass surgery and a valve repair done three years ago. It is a pretty routine surgery nowadays unless you have complications like I did. I threw a pulmonary embolus during an in-bed x-ray two days after my surgery and I stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest . They had to cut me back open, cut the wires to open my breast bone back up and the surgeon hand-massaged my heart for 10 minutes before it started beating on its own again. They waited two days to make sure everything was working properly before they wired my breast bone back together but they couldn't sew my wound back up because of risk of infection. So I had an open chest wound for two and a half months before it healed itself shut. I was in the hospital for almost 6 weeks as a result, instead of the normal 5 days heart surgery patients are inpatient. Took me six months to started walking decent and a full year plus, to feel fully recovered.
The upside is, instead of having a thin, clean suture line on my chest from the surgery, I have a bad-ass, ugly looking scar on my chest where my open wound had to heal up on its own. My pride and joy.
Your post made me smile.
It’s always nice to be able to do that. You just returned the favor.
Prayers for your father’s successful surgery and full and speedy recovery !
Prayers for your Dad.
My Father in Law has had 4 bypass surgeries. Two Quints, one Quad, and one triple.
On the last one Doc say’s, “Heck, we should have put a zipper in after the first.”
Old Fart is still kickin’, and onrey as ever.
Prayers for your father.
Prayers up.
Thank you JimRob! And everyone for your kind greetings.
Update.
We are still waiting, he’s now in the OR about 6.5 hrs.
Hope things will go well, both for surgery and after. My mother has been here alone all day until I came about 3 hrs ago, and we had a scare where she was beside herself soon after I got here.
Please also pray for me because this has been a “bad” day for my latest medical issue, and it causes a lot of disruption for me to perform these duties. I feel like going to the ER myself and getting a culture for the infections I get so much. I so wish this would go away so I can easily devote myself to more pressing issues like Dad and Mom.
