In an article which may be found here, Dr. William Oddie notes that, "Pope Francis has now once again (though to judge by the so far sparse coverage, youd think hed never said or done anything before) expressed his abhorrence of clerical sex abuse. Previous popesindeed most senior clergyare normally too reticent, however, to do what he has now done as well, that is to say, he has defended the Catholic Churchs record on tackling the sexual abuse of children by priests, by declaring what is now the simple truth: that no one else has done more than the Church to root out pedophilia.
The Catholic Church, he said in an interview with Corriere della Sera published March 5, 'is perhaps the only public institution to have acted with transparency and responsibility. No one else has done more. Yet the Church is the only one to have been attacked. The statistics on the phenomenon of violence against children are shocking, but they also clearly show that the great majority of abuses are carried out in family or neighborhood environments.'
Hes not in fact the first pope to point out that child sex abuse is a problem for society as a whole, and not just for the Church. Pope Benedict, having acknowledged

It is a fact though that many were/are. Certainly not all.
Great post Ping worthy.
Don’t they use children’s blood in the communion wine or have I got that confused with somebody else?
I’d like to see statistics compiled that compare clergy to school teachers.
Correct. The bad ones color them all.
Not Catholics! We use wine.
I don’t know of any religion of God that uses blood.
And I'd like to compare the policies and procedures that exist in the Church today to prevent such evil in the future ... versus what 'changes' have been made in the government school system to prevent it and root it out.
You’ve got to look for deeper meaning in my comment.
Not if you're president of the NEA or AFT. Having worked in NYC Catholic and public schools I actually knew a priest who was discovered, defrocked and convicted of sexual child abuse. I also knew a NYC junior hs principal who was a serial abuser of Asian adolescents and who vacationed in Thailand who was never outed and whose only punishment was being told he could not apply to become district superintendent or he'd be outed. He simply retired with full pension. In the same school I also was aware of two male teachers who had sexual relationships with 14 year old girls. So I agree with the gist of the article that as bad as the goings on in the Church have been they have been revealed and dealt with to a greater extent than what has been going on in American public schools.
“”Id like to see statistics compiled that compare clergy to school teachers””
The power to corrupt also give the power to coverup....
I dont know of any religion of God that uses blood.
There is that “religion” that has a riotual of cutting one’s head with a razor or knife called asu-something....

The Catholic Church was infiltrated by the Homos. Every one of those child predators was one.
Later in the Middle Ages the infamous "blood libel" claimed that Jews kidnapped and killed Christian children to use their blood.
Who Are the Perpetrators? Perpetrators of child abuse or neglect are most often the childs own parents. According to NCANDS, in 2005, 79.4 percent of perpetrators were parents and 6.8 percent were other relatives. The largest remaining categories of perpetrators were the unmarried partner of a childs parent (3.8 percent) and other perpetrators (4.1 percent). In 3.6 percent of child maltreatment cases the perpetrators were missing or unknown. In under 1 percent of child maltreatment cases the perpetrator was a foster parent, residential facility staff, the childs daycare provider, a legal guardian, friends or neighbors, or other professionals (USDHHS, 2007).
What do religious church leaders have to do with the countless millions of us who teach school at some point?
