Forty-nine years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy former mob buster Robert Blakey contends the most likely explanation from the available evidence is that the Mafia was responsible as reported by Tovin Lapan for the Las Vegas Sun:
"I think the mob set Oswald up as a patsy. It's not that I think (Oswald) didn't shoot (Kennedy), but that I think he was set up so (investigators) would focus on the Cuban connections (and not the mob). Did the mob do it? I don't know for sure, but it explains more of the evidence than anything else."
Blakey, currently a law professor at the Notre Dame Law School, is the author of The Plot To Kill The President which first set forth the case that the Mafia got away with assassinating Kennedy as reported by David Talbot for Salon:
"[Blakey] would emerge as the Warren Report's most authoritative critic and a firm believer that Kennedy had died as the result of a conspiracy, masterminded by [New Orleans Godfather Carlos] Marcello and his Mafia ally, Santo Trafficante, the Florida godfather who had been driven out of the lucrative Havana casino business by Castro and who had been recruited in the CIA plot to kill the Cuban leader."
Historians increasingly have embraced Blakey's analysis, and in 2008 Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann published Legacy of Secrecy in which they rather conclusively establish the mob's responsibility for the hit against the President.
Leonardo DiCaprio will star in and produce the film adaptation of Legacy of Secrecy in which "DiCaprio will play FBI informant Jack Van Laningham, who befriends the southern mafia leader, Carlos Marcello, a man the book fingers as the potential mastermind of the 1963 murder (he reportedly even confessed involvement)" as reported by Terri Schwartz for MTV.
With regard to Marcello's confession to Laningham regarding the Kennedy assassination, in reviewing Legacy of Secrecy for the Herald Sun James Campbell wrote the following:
The strongest evidence the authors produce is Marcello's confession to an FBI informant in the 1980s. "The FBI had managed to get an informant inside Marcello's cell and Marcello trusted this guy," Waldron said. According to a 1985 memo quoted in the book, the informant told the FBI: "On December 15, 1985, he (the informant) was in the company of Carlos Marcello and another inmate at the Federal Correctional Institute, Texarkana, Texas, engaged in conversation. Carlos Marcello discussed his intense dislike of former President John Kennedy as he often did. Unlike other such tirades against Kennedy, however, on this occasion Carlos Marcello said, referring to President Kennedy, 'Yeah, I had the son of bitch killed. I'm glad I did it. I'm sorry I couldn't have done it myself.'"
Anytime some mob apologist delusionally waxes romantic about how patriotic the Mafia is, just remember that the boys likely were the ones who whacked the President. Now how patriotic was that?
The best information I have ever seen on JFK is the series called, “The Men Who Killed Kennedy.”
Of course the Mob did it. Rumrunner Joe went to the Chicago mob to fix the election. The Mob gave JFK Chicago which gave him Illinois which gave him the election. Naturally they thought this should give them some pull with the White House. Problem was Joe Kennedy had a stroke and never told his boys what he had done. When JFK appointd brother Bobby Attorney General and made prosecuting the Mafia Job Number One, the good fellas in Chicago were rightfully pissed off. PO’d enough to have Kennedy whacked for double crossing them and generally being a jerk.
One thing for sure, the only group that could have kept their mouths shut all this time would be the mob.
I agree. Great series. You cannot believe this was not a conspiracy.
Every visit to Dalls is never complete without a “moment of silence” drive-by down Elm St. Almost 50 years later and it was the perfect crime. More than JFK died that day. The bond between the government and we citizens was murdered as well.
Mafia in connection with LBJ.
I still think that Kennedy dared to have put in circulation over 200 million dollars of USA dollars which could be used in place of the Fed Reserve notes had some connection to his assassination. The Fed ‘notes’ of indebtedness which we call ‘dollars’ are in fact owned by international banking interests. The stage for this takeover was set under POTUSA Wilson with the help of the European big money controllers and aided and abetted by USA government people. Kennedy could not be allowed to up set their money cart.
Didn’t JFK sign a bill or order to audit the FED a month before?
I always thought about that, that if the Mafia didn’t kill JFK then it would be very surprising to say the least considering how the Kennedys screwed them over after they helped JFK get elected. I mean do people honestly think the mob was like “Oh it’s the Kennedys, let’s forgeddabowdit”?? I don’t think so. I think they also had Bobby wacked. The Kennedys were arrogant as all hell, still are, and that’s why there are so many dead ones. They always seem to over-estimate themselves.
Posner’s book is sooooo silly....so full of holes...he sets out to prove that Oswald acted alone...a man with no motive to kill the president he told many was “the best”...Posner simply ignores evidence that does not fit his theory and whitewashes other evidence.
All one needs to know about the Kennedy assassination is that the “single bullet” theory was invented by....Arlen Spector...enough said?
Vincent Bugliosi studied this case for more than 20 years... he put the conspiracy theories to the test and none of them added up. His book, “Reclaiming History” debunked them all.
But hey... conspiracies are fun.. they`re so much more interesting than the truth. Plus, they go on forever.
Vinnie also wrote a book saying that George W. Bush should be prosecuted for the first degree murder of US soldiers.
Just sayin'...
Opinions are still changing about details in the Lincoln assassination. So I’m sure people will be talking about Kennedy’s long after I’m gone.
The most startling thing to me is that nearly a half century has passed since that fateful day...........Where on earth did those years go?
The mob were furious that their old ally’s sons were going after them...they stole Illinois for JFK in ‘60 and helped out in the West Virginia primary delivering brown bags of cash to county officials to fix that vote...Humphrey, a Protestant, was slaughted by Kennedy, a Catholic, in W. VA, a state that was 90% Protestant...and ignorant...it had one of the lowest rates of education in the union at that time.
Of course the mob hit him...this has been general knowledge for many years...just don’t tell the msm...but they had to have the help of LBJ. They had to know there would be no serious investigation afterwards.
Johnson and the mob hated the Kennedys.
JFK was having an affair with a communist spy. The story was about to come out. Kennedy was killed in Texas, his VPs home state. Oswald gets gunned down on tv by a guy who is going to die. The Democrats killed their own President.
The mafia did it, yet the files remain sealed.
