Holly is my 7 year old yellow Labrador. She is the very best dog I've ever had. She's everything a lab should be and more.
She's also my two son's best friend. The 20 year old moved out recently and always teased he'd take her when he got his own place but I told him over my dead body. My 5 year old, well that is his buddy and the light of his life. He adores her beyond words.
When he had his first eye surgery when he was 6 months old, she laid on the floor with him and didnt move a muscle. The doc said he could resume normal activities a few hours after the surgery. And he squeeled when he crawled up on her and snuggled his face in her fur.
Even today he told her several times that he loved her and that she was the best dog.
Tonight I was sitting in the recliner and she jumped up and had her two front paws on my lap getting some ear scritches. She made a funny face and I noticed that her bottom gum is a dark grey in color, in the front. She used to chew and nibble things and she's worn her teethies down to the gum line ( all but her big gurl teeth ).
She's going to have to go to the vet and I have a great vet but it's the bill that I'm freaking out about. I know it's not going to be cheap to get her mouth fixed up and there are so many things that need replacing right this minute ( hot water heater, tires for 2 of our vehicles ) that I need a miracle for Holly.
So I swallow the lumps in my throat and try to keep up with the flow of tears streaming down my face, to ask you all to pray for a miracle for Holly.
I almost feel guilty in asking for prayers for her when so many need them worse but if you'd meet Holly, you'd love her in a blink of an eye.
She went back to her breeder for a litter of puppies ( Champions produced = show dogs ) and came back a year later and I couldnt keep up with the emails andphone calls telling me what a wonderful girl she is and that if she ever needed a home, they'd take her in a heart beat. I even had offers to buy her for a LOT of money but she's our family companion so of course I turned it flat down. Yup, that's my sweet gorgeous girl Holly.
I'll post a photo of her as soon as I can get it saved to my photo bucket.
Yeah I had to have her put down. There I stood, 6’1, 260 lbs veteran.;..kind of mean looking on a good day.....balling my eyes out like a heart broken little girl.
Brought her home to the farm and buried her under a shade tree. She’ll get a small headstone soon.
Holly is in my prayers.
Prayers for your fur baby.
My six year old chocolate lab is named Holly and she is just the sweetest creature imaginable. I hope your Holly gets better
Prayers being said for your wonderful Holly.
What a bummer! I've had a couple of dogs, but could not continue on with their short lives.
My Siamese cats have gone on for 22-24 years each, and have lived until senility (alzheimers) set in.
Prayers up for Holly, your finances, your family and fine sons, and you. May the Lord bless you all, and may he grant you happier, more prosperous times soon.
Prayers up for your Doggie friend!
I understand; praying for you & your pup!
I understand; praying for you & your pup!
Prayers up for Holly. Our “best friends” five so much and ask for so little.
Prayers up for Holly
Prayers for Holly and for you that things will work out!
Thanks Joe.
Awwww, what an adorable photo!
Your Holly & rest of the family are in my thoughts. I’ve definitely been there - just a disaster away myself.
Have you taken your dog to the vet yet? Please, keep us informed. Thanks.
Thanks for askin’ ~!
Yes, I took her yesterday and according to my vet, she has nothing wrong.
She’s worn her teeth down to the gum line and they’re “shifting” a bit under the gums, and causing that discoloration.
She was given a clean bill of health and I was Praising God for this diagnosis.
Although I should take her in right away should she get that infection “stink” or see blood , swelling and puss.
I was going to post last night but I’ve had some sort of “bug” going on the past few days so decided to go to bed early ( like 7 pm !! ), thus no post last night to update.
Again, I humbly thank you all for including my sweetie in your thoughts and prayers.
And mostly Thankfulness to God for answering those prayers.
Thank you.
That is one of my favorite photos. There are a couple of other ones that show the bond between kid and dog.
While we were on our way home from the vet yesterday ( see a couple posts below ), the little one said to Holly “ you’re my best friend and the bestest doggie”.
It was precious and brought a smile to my heart.
I kind of wondered if that was normal. I recall the vet commenting on such a thing with one of our cats and after reading your post I wondered if the same were true of dogs. Glad to hear your dog is ok. We have a sick cat so I know how worried one can be with a sick pet.
Hope everything else works out for you, too.
