Franklin, NC is a town in NC that, to me, has changed more than just about any town there. - We lived in Mt. Gilead, NC for a few months over 40 yrs. ago. It doesn’t seem possible that it’s been that long ago. I liked Mt. Gilead pretty well, but husband wanted to be elsewhere, so we left. The man we rented a lake cottage from there was later killed by some criminals who stopped him and robbed him after he stopped to help them. They feigned car trouble; and he was known to carry a huge roll of bills - not a good idea, of course.

I love the high backed wooden booths that are typical to restaurants from the time. It would be even nicer if people would show some respect and not carve graffiti into them. They remind me of the plush high backed booths that came back in style during the 60s and early 70s.
Even cooler, the place does not allow the use of ketchup and mustard since the owner wanted patrons to appreciate the flavor of his blend of cuts:

Huge Angus hand pattied burgers cooked on a well seasoned griddle with butter and worcestershire sauce. Served on a large grilled sesame seed bun with mayo, shredded lettuce, sliced tomato and sauteed onions and a side of hand cut french fries.
My parents met there back in the late 1950’s.

I’m from NM and get my fair share of lotaburgers. They’re great so get one if you ever have a chance. That said I have had an in-in out burger combo. Enjoyed them. The itsaburger- a smaller version of the standard size lotaburger- tastes close to an in-in out burger and resembles it too.
These are available with green chili. but then again everything in NM can have green chili on it. =)
