In today's broadcast, conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said that the contrail spotted off the California coast by a KCBS news helicopter was a missile. "I've talked to experts" he said. "It was a missile." The comment puts him in line with many who doubt the administration’s characterization of the contrail seen off the California coast as that of an airplane.

A low day for Rush.
The contrail/missile debate has become sort of a religious debate with both sides pretty dug in. Its now like global warming on the left - if you don’t express belief it was a missile you get cast out of the flock.
In this case, I’m happy to be out of the flock. Must be that I’m just a government-loving toady who can’t handle the truth. /s

Seriously, some people need to get their faces out of their monitors and look up in the sky every once in a while, especially at sunrise and sunset. It’s a fairly common occurrence in fly-over country where most of the planes are at cruising altitude and the humidity is higher.
You couldn’t be more wrong on the TSA front. Liberalism is why little childern and great-grandmothers are being felt up. Do you honestly believe that selective profiling is wrong? It is liberal fear of profiling that has produce this onslaught on everyday American’s civil rights.

Note that the clouds at the bottom appear to have been there AWHILE.. since they are being dispersed by winds. Missiles don't stay in the air long enough for that to happen.

These threads are very similar to the initial threads in March when the Norks sank the Cheonan. A lot of the same posters were involved too.
The similarity is even more interesting given the events of this morning.
Ah, yes. The good old "corkscrew effect." Somehow that has become accepted as "characteristic" of rocket launches. It's bullshit.
Suffice it to say that rockets under proper guidance do not go corkscrewing through the air after launch.
Not to say that it never happens....
I actually had one guy tell me on this forum that the fact that no air traffic controllers say they saw the missle on radar is proof that it was a missle!

What goes up must come down. Where did the missile splash, and why is there no record of a missile launch registered by any satellite?

Today, Rush was talking about an Arab called Mansour who was supposedly Taliban, and was paid big American and Nato money to negotiate a peace with Prez Kharzai(sp?) in Afghanistan, even visited Kharzai’s palace, and turns out Mansour was an imposter, and has “taken the money and run”. People were asking how could this imposter get away with it, and Rush’s answer, we preently have an imposter in the WH who is getting away with it. Go Rush!!!

While I won’t argue the certainty of what it was or wasn’t, for me, there are just too many reasons why I am unable to believe ANYTHING that comes from the Obama administration.
It just seems to me you can see where the smoke is coming from to long to be a missile, Those things are so fast they are gone in seconds, this object seems to be working its way along.
One thing is for sure, your eyes can lie to you, magicians prove that over and over...

Conservatives like to see things as black or white with no shades of gray. There is conflicting evidence for both positions. Missile experts still aren't certain what this was based on the limited video.
If you notice in that corkscrew screenshot at the base you can see a thick marine layer *behind* the plume. For that to be an airliner contrail that marine layer would have to be higher than 40,000 ft, which doesn't usually occur. There is very little weather above 40,000 ft. other than whispy clouds and occasional towering thunderstorms, not thick stratus clouds.
