It's Official: An Asteroid Wiped Out the Dinosaurs
Reuters ^ | 03/05/2010 | Kate Kelland

A giant asteroid smashing into Earth is the only plausible explanation for the extinction of the dinosaurs, a global scientific team said on Thursday, hoping to settle a row that has divided experts for decades.

Sorry bud but you can not re-create the dinos nor re-create and test the event(s) that may have led to their extinction.

Therefore historical science and some will tell you that it is not even science since you can never re-create all the conditions w/o time-travel. Not quit being so hysterical.

SEARCHING for the truth is far different than expounding a theory and CALLING it truth.

Expounding a theory, showing how it is consistent with data you have and opening it for challenge are how you search for truth in science. When after years of debate the only folks holding on are dead-enders who won't give up on ideas that do not fit the data, you declare victory and move on.

Of course, no scientific theory is unchallengeable, not Newton's laws, Maxwell's equations, the theory of relativity, or the Standard Model for electro-weak interactions. But, after they have become generally accepted, then, in order to have any credibility in your challlenge, the burden is upon you to produce convincing data and an explanation.

Science cannot progress if you never state that we have closed such and such an issue and are moving on.

Just saying....

When idiots like you state idiotic things like this, you repulse everyone with any knowledge of how science actually works. All you do is create votes for the other party, who pretend to be the party of true science.

You really don’t understand science do you?!

Science is never closed but that does not impede it’s progress.

You are an idiot. It damn well is science. You want to challenge it you can. Just put forward another hypothesis and show that it is a better explanatory fit for the data than the preferred hypothesis. THAT is science, you nattering nabob of cluelessness. What is not science is folks like you sitting on the sidelines and jeering in favor of the powers of darkness and ignorance.

And just for those clueless twits who don't f'in get it. The catastrophic asteroid theory of dinosaur extinction was first put forward by a team of physicists and geophysicists including the great Luis Alvarez. They did incredibly careful work to find new data (including the observation of a layer of iridium, etc.) that lead to the formation of this hypothesis and its general acceptance. This is not global warming. It is based on the most careful science the best scientists in the world knew how to do. It is way way way over your pea brained comprehension.

There is a political point behind this highly personal attack. It is my belief that conservatism is the direct product of the enlightenment through our founding luminaries. It is not the product of ignorance, prejudice and idiocy, like you have expressed. There is no room in MY branch of conservatism for anti-scientific idiots because your kind of attitude leads people to revile conservatives and leads to the election of what we presently have.

It's been way way too long since you've gotten laid. That's the only plausible explanation for this maniacal rant. Is my hypothesis science???

You come across as more of an arrogant left-wing academic elitist than rational scientist. Are you as nasty on the job with your colleagues? I’ll ask again, how many conferences have you been kicked out of?

Yep and just like the left with Global warming they think that "Arrogant Condensation" is an argument

Remember the Asteroid theory was quickly embraced by the left anti-nuclear war movement. "If Nuclear winter can wipe out the Dinosaurs just image what it will do do your children so join us in stopping Reagan".

Now it just hangs around because of it's coolness factor

Well, you obviously haven't seen "Day After Tomorrow"!

” found that a 15-kilometre (9 miles) wide asteroid slamming into Earth at Chicxulub in what is now Mexico was the culprit.”

That was just God’s way of trying to correct a mistake.

" shrouding the planet in darkness, causing a global winter and "killing off many species that couldn't adapt to this hellish environment." "........

their theory also does not address the or CYCLICAL nature of global winter(S)

Dino do do?

"A coprolite is fossilized animal dung. Coprolites are classified as trace fossils as opposed to body fossils, as they give evidence for the animal's behaviour (in this case, diet) rather than morphology."

How can you declare an issue “closed” or “proven” that has no final disposition? They are saying, for instance, that Venus can never support life. Yet back in the day, THIS planet was made up of exactly the same conditions that exist on Venus right now.
A couple of years ago, they were declaring that Titan and Enceladus were dead and incapable of supporting life. My, my how things change when they put new lenses in their tunnel vision glasses.

Science is apolitical, if it is real. When politics comes into the equation, all bets are off.

IPCC maintains that 2,000 is sufficient to form a consensus of scientists, now we see the bar lowered to 41 which also just happens to be close to the number of scientists engaged in monkeying with the data in our recent climategate debacle.

Agreeing on the unknown or the unknowable makes it no more true than before.

Would you agree that this latest pronouncement is meant to silence the critics mentioned above?

What’s in it for the winning side?

Is this a pet project of yours or are you just normally this testy?
