Knock It Off, Free Republic!
XenoHistoran ^ | 12/1/09 | XenoHistorian

Posted on 12/02/2009 9:21:09 AM PST by pissant

I have been a minor participant at Free Republic, the Internet’s leading conservative forum, since September 2004. An online friend referred me to a discussion where members of Free Republic were talking about the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections, and using my maps from this page to make a point. I had to join FR to introduce myself to that group, and thank them for visiting. Because that was right after the “Rathergate” scandal, I thus became one of the “Pajamahadeen” that had just brought down the Sauronic eye of CBS.

Being a “Freeper” has been an interesting and fun experience, but I am disturbed by a current trend on those boards. For the past few weeks, at least since the latest fundraising drive ended, I have noticed that every new thread begins with a picture or video reminding us that Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, supports abortion. It doesn’t matter what the topic is, the anti-Mitt material pops up.

Personally, I think our current priorities ought to be making sure President Obama and his leftist pals don’t force their health care plan down our throats, and defeating as many moonbats as possible in next year’s congressional and gubernatorial elections, especially Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Slobbering Barney Frank. Then in 2011 or 2012 we can fight over who we want for the presidency. Consequently, yesterday I posted the following on the Kentucky board:

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Mitt Romney bashing that goes on at the beginning of each new thread? Granted, he may not be conservative enough for most of us (my first choice for 2012 would probably be Sarah Palin or Duncan Hunter), but he just HAS to be better than the Chicago mob that rules Washington now. Somebody ought to tell Jim Robinson that BHO and his cabal are the real enemy, not Mitt. Sheesh, an outside observer looking at us now is probably getting the impression that Republicans eat their own. And as for Mitt Romney being a Mormon, well, I’m more concerned about Harry Reid’s Mormon faith. Does he HAVE any?

Four replies have appeared since then, and only one agrees with me. The others just said we ought to do whatever we can to make Mitt Romney unelectable. I guess I’m going to take a timeout from Free Republic. Hopefully the Freepers will be acting more sensibly when I return. ’Bye, see you guys next year.

Then you have a short memory.

Maybe. Or maybe not.

Hoping we defeat Obamacare and Cap & Trade, and hoping we do well in 2010 and get Congress back. Concentrating on that before I even think about 2012.

Maybe Romney will not even run...it is a long was off.

All I can say is - JR’s support of Huckabee was a total disaster. And yes, I find the rabid anti-Romney hysteria on FR irritating, juvenile and counterproductive as well.

A matter of record from that thread:

There were several thousand more contentious posts after this one.

Whether it proves anything to anyone is up to others.

“Because there is no doubt in my mind that candidates are being selected RIGHT NOW.”

YOU are sooo right. We saw McCain coming over the hill long before the primaries began. The press pushed him. The dems pushed him. The RINOs pushed him. WE didn’t want him, He couldn’t raise a red freaking cent from Conservatives. The miracle in NH was SO set up. No one is THAT dead in the water and rises from the grave like mxxain did, It just doesn’t happen.
Beware the dem-RINO machine. There is no doubt in my mind it is already rolling. And the RINOs DO NOT want Sarah Palin to run.

I do not know what was said by each poster to get them banned, but here is a list compiled by someone as to all who got banned from that rudy thread... It is up to you to decide why...I did not ban them nor do I agree with them on supporting Rudy.

OK, so 44% of the country is guilty of murder. Why single out one guy as a “baby killer”?

Agreed...BUT..butbutbutbutbut...and let me make this perfectly clear here to you, XenoHistorian, if you're still monitoring here.... and to any other GOP shill checking in...

REPLACING THOSE COMMUNIST ASSCLOWNS WITH LIBERAL/SOCIALIST RINO ASSCLOWNS WHO TRY IT UNDER SOME OTHER EUPHEMISM GETS US EXACTLY THE SAME THING!!!

So....in yer ultimate wisdom, exactly HOW is that any different???

I mean, I can say this LOUDER and S-L-O-W-E-R if that helps...???

Geez...what the hell IS it with these dense, bozo boneheads that they just don't get it???

It ain't rocket science...No More RINOs. Not now. Not Ever Again.

I have no problem at all with the banning of various posters on that thread. The bottom line is that this is Jim's site and his decision. If I recall correctly, banned members may petition Jim to rejoin FR.

There is a stated purpose for Free Republic on the home page. Those who are critical of the owner or his actions might want to read it.

I spent the first thousands of posts in that thread, pointing out what each person had done to get banned.

But eventually, I changed my mind about it, I can’t find where but it was probably after the 1st 10,000 posts.

But I remember at the time how annoying some of the Rudy supporters were — not how they supported their candidate, but how they made up things about other candidates, or told us in April of 2007 that we had to pick Rudy or Hillary would win.

Well, we didn’t pick Rudy and Hillary didn’t win. And I for one, wish she had.

There are some things just so terribly wrong that any support for them shows a deep character flaw. Abortion and Massachusetts style gun control are impossible for any true republican to support. I see no reason to trust Mitt!

Right on, Mitt is reserving his options waiting to see who wins! He should be using his influence to fight the democrats every step of the way! All he cares about is his crappy political future!

You might want to look through some of their comments and see for yourself if you think they were banned unjustly. Just as an example, the first one on the list after quidnunc is this gem:

http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/by:texasforever/index?tab=comments

In some cases, you'll need to go back into the comments they were replying to to see what happened.

I remember arguing strongly against a number of those people at the time about their support of Rudy and arguing in support of my choice, but I still don't know of anyone getting banned just because they supported Rudy any more than people are getting banned now just for supporting Mitt.

“...Abortion and Massachusetts style gun control are impossible for any true republican to support...”

SWAMPSNIPER, you are right the money... To my mind, ANY politician who tries to refuse ME the right to protect my neighborhood, my family, and my life, is a dirtbag of the Nth degree....and WORSE than the thug trying to rob or kill me.

Any politician who thinks its OK to stab a needle in a baby’s brain and destroy it before it can even be born is a sick waste of humanity, indeed...

What that tells me is that:

1. They conveniently FORGET or choose to not understand that they are PUBLIC SERVANTS who serve at OUR leisure, not theirs.

2. They care not one iota whether any of us lives or dies - as long as they get their agenda accomplished.

3. They are little two-bit dictators waiting for their one shot at fame - generally at some one else’s expense.

That’s about it. If a Pol doesn’t trust ME with my rights, and thinks its just FINE to destroy an innocent child’s life and call it a “choice”, why in the hell should I give him/her/it life and death authority over me?

Seems kinda simple to me...
