Knock It Off, Free Republic!
XenoHistoran ^ | 12/1/09 | XenoHistorian

Posted on 12/02/2009 9:21:09 AM PST by pissant

I have been a minor participant at Free Republic, the Internet’s leading conservative forum, since September 2004. An online friend referred me to a discussion where members of Free Republic were talking about the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections, and using my maps from this page to make a point. I had to join FR to introduce myself to that group, and thank them for visiting. Because that was right after the “Rathergate” scandal, I thus became one of the “Pajamahadeen” that had just brought down the Sauronic eye of CBS.

Being a “Freeper” has been an interesting and fun experience, but I am disturbed by a current trend on those boards. For the past few weeks, at least since the latest fundraising drive ended, I have noticed that every new thread begins with a picture or video reminding us that Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, supports abortion. It doesn’t matter what the topic is, the anti-Mitt material pops up.

Personally, I think our current priorities ought to be making sure President Obama and his leftist pals don’t force their health care plan down our throats, and defeating as many moonbats as possible in next year’s congressional and gubernatorial elections, especially Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Slobbering Barney Frank. Then in 2011 or 2012 we can fight over who we want for the presidency. Consequently, yesterday I posted the following on the Kentucky board:

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Mitt Romney bashing that goes on at the beginning of each new thread? Granted, he may not be conservative enough for most of us (my first choice for 2012 would probably be Sarah Palin or Duncan Hunter), but he just HAS to be better than the Chicago mob that rules Washington now. Somebody ought to tell Jim Robinson that BHO and his cabal are the real enemy, not Mitt. Sheesh, an outside observer looking at us now is probably getting the impression that Republicans eat their own. And as for Mitt Romney being a Mormon, well, I’m more concerned about Harry Reid’s Mormon faith. Does he HAVE any?

Four replies have appeared since then, and only one agrees with me. The others just said we ought to do whatever we can to make Mitt Romney unelectable. I guess I’m going to take a timeout from Free Republic. Hopefully the Freepers will be acting more sensibly when I return. ’Bye, see you guys next year.

Mitt-bashing

Bashing to me is putting up something like a SNL skit that makes light of facts in the name of comedy. Putting up a debate of Mitt going on and on and on about supporting abortion is not what I call bashing. I call it embarrassing to conservatives. I call it revealing to just what measures a politician will take to weasel out of conservative cause when the going gets tough. I call it revealing that people would support this RINO with a straight face.

It is a spit in the face of conservatives and Christians IMHO... and I am glad that I finally clicked on it to view it. I ignored it for a long time, but finally gave it a view. Now I see why it was featured for so long.

Not at all. The Bug Zapper Thread is there, most of us just don't happen to have the link readily available. You should do your own homework.

I remember at the time there was a lot of wailing about all the freepers being lost, and I remember looking at the time and not seeing any cases where somebody got banned that wasn't asking for it by becoming abusive.

It's a lot easier for somebody to prove the unjustified bannings happened if they actually did, than for me to prove it never happened. I could spend the next six months looking and looking, and if I can't find an instance of it happening, the response would simply be "Yeah, you just didn't look in the right place. Keep looking."

"This is not the time to trash a guy who *MIGHT* run for office in a few years. It’s the time to destroy Obamacare, get Congress back, and defeat liberalism however we can. Acting like a bunch of idiots will simply marginalize us."

We HAVE to talk about everything, from current issues to future issues. WHY? Because there is no doubt in my mind that candidates are being selected RIGHT NOW. We have to make our voices heard by those who select the candidates right now so they can eliminate the potentials early on and find someone we will support. WE HAVE TO.

"Now, if you’re not a Creationist, Mitt-Hating, Rudy-Hating, Bible-Thumping, Science-Hating, JimRob worshipping, TV-hating turd, you’re not welcome. "

I don't believe that for a second. If however you defend a rino candidate or an elected rino official..using vulgarities, rudeness, and personal attacks, then all gloves are off. Being respectful is the key to sound debate. I've seen excellent debates on FR that didn't resort to bannings etc., because the posters didn't attack each other.

That's what some of us have learned: that if you sacrifice your basic conservative principles on the alter of "winning seats," you end up sacrificing your country.

I supported and voted for Schwarzenegger before I knew that. Arnold taught me something -- and I'm applying what I learned. You cannot and will not alter the course of the ship that's heading toward the shoals until you start making big government liberalism LOSE. You are mistaken -- I used to think like you -- in thinking that a big government Republican is preferable to a big government Democrat. It's a lesson hard-learned and relies on understanding the value of counter-intuitive reality. It's the ONLY good thing I got out of Schwarzenegger; if I had that election to do over, I'd vote for Cruz Bustamonte as the lesser long term evil.

The link to the thread was posted before I stated that, along with a comment about the bannings for disagrreing with Jim by supporting Rudy.

I was not the first. Because I have better things to do than read the long thread you continue to harrass me about it.

Done with you, done with this thread, leave me alone and do not post to me in the future.

Uh, no. That's not right. And this post insults a great many FReepers. Was it meant to upset people? If so then it becomes about you and your online behavior rather than about Mitt and his record.

If you view negative responses to this particular post as somehow not accepting of alternate conservative views then you are muddying the waters and simply being rude and divisive.

This is something that needs to be pointed out - if you attack with anything other than verifiable facts and figures about conservative issues then you have changed the topic and entered into an area where extreme behavior ends in zotting. You don't seem to be even close to me - far from it - but you need to see your own post for what it is and what it isn't: it isn't an alternate conservative view. It is a personal attack of fellow FReepers.

Yes. But a two-faced, back stabbing RINO who supports gun control, sanctuary cities, unconstitutional socialist health care, gay marriage, abortion, liberal judges, etc, etc, etc, is no conservative any way you measure it. He’s a two-bit LIBERAL LYING political whore!

“Maybe. But, I think in Massachusetts now more people are insured, and therefore paying their own way, than ever before.”

Actually, Romneycare is so expensive, they have had to begin rationing care and they have cut back reimbursements so heavily, they could end up running hospitals out of business. The hospitals are suing the State to try to save themselves from Romney’s brilliance.

I quite often reply to people when they post comments to me, and I plan to continue to do so. Simple way of getting me to leave you alone is to stop replying to my comments to you. I'm certainly not stalking you, although I'd hope to retain the right to post replies to comments you make on various threads in the future if I feel I have some relevant point to make.

Be careful, trying to introduce facts and reality to Romneybot can become time consuming and is usually futile...

Oh Wow! Is this said with a stamping of the foot and appropriate whine in the voice?

I’ve seen this comment often on the education threads. “Don’t post to me ever AGAIN!”

My opinion is that if you don’t want posts to you then DO NOT PARTICIPATE on message boards. Big boys and girls understand that if you put your big opinionated toe out there in cyberspace it just might get stepped on.

Well, I thought at the time that it was better than pistols at 10 paces. At least I spared the supreme insult throwing butt wiper his life.

No, I am not a Hillary supporter for opposing the gay rights/abortionist pushing Rudy Giulianni and if anyone insults me by accusing me of being an Obama supporter for my opposition to the socialist/abortionist Mitt Romney, he will probably receive similar fate.

Should it be pistols or swords or banishment from the pool?
