I do not know what was said by each poster to get them banned, but here is a list compiled by someone as to all who got banned from that rudy thread... It is up to you to decide why...I did not ban them nor do I agree with them on supporting Rudy.

I have no problem at all with the banning of various posters on that thread. The bottom line is that this is Jim's site and his decision. If I recall correctly, banned members may petition Jim to rejoin FR.

There is a stated purpose for Free Republic on the home page. Those who are critical of the owner or his actions might want to read it.

You might want to look through some of their comments and see for yourself if you think they were banned unjustly. Just as an example, the first one on the list after quidnunc is this gem:

In some cases, you'll need to go back into the comments they were replying to to see what happened.

I remember arguing strongly against a number of those people at the time about their support of Rudy and arguing in support of my choice, but I still don't know of anyone getting banned just because they supported Rudy any more than people are getting banned now just for supporting Mitt.

I remember it well. That thread was a long time in the making and it couldn't have come soon enough for many FReepers. Rudy Giuliani may have been the impetus for the thread itself, but the anti-conservative posters --- liberals, moderates and centrists, along with the malcontents, misfits and militants --- who for years had infested the forum undermining FR's conservative agenda finally received the kind of exposure they justifiably deserved, but weren't looking for. I said it then and I'll say it again, good riddance.

FWIW. The poster -— si tacuissem -— who created that list of banned screen names, was also banned or suspended at some point thereafter.

Good find. Some of them came back for a while, and then were banned again. By that point in the thread I had left.
