Knock It Off, Free Republic!
XenoHistoran ^ | 12/1/09 | XenoHistorian

Posted on 12/02/2009 9:21:09 AM PST by pissant

I have been a minor participant at Free Republic, the Internet’s leading conservative forum, since September 2004. An online friend referred me to a discussion where members of Free Republic were talking about the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections, and using my maps from this page to make a point. I had to join FR to introduce myself to that group, and thank them for visiting. Because that was right after the “Rathergate” scandal, I thus became one of the “Pajamahadeen” that had just brought down the Sauronic eye of CBS.

Being a “Freeper” has been an interesting and fun experience, but I am disturbed by a current trend on those boards. For the past few weeks, at least since the latest fundraising drive ended, I have noticed that every new thread begins with a picture or video reminding us that Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, supports abortion. It doesn’t matter what the topic is, the anti-Mitt material pops up.

Personally, I think our current priorities ought to be making sure President Obama and his leftist pals don’t force their health care plan down our throats, and defeating as many moonbats as possible in next year’s congressional and gubernatorial elections, especially Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Slobbering Barney Frank. Then in 2011 or 2012 we can fight over who we want for the presidency. Consequently, yesterday I posted the following on the Kentucky board:

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Mitt Romney bashing that goes on at the beginning of each new thread? Granted, he may not be conservative enough for most of us (my first choice for 2012 would probably be Sarah Palin or Duncan Hunter), but he just HAS to be better than the Chicago mob that rules Washington now. Somebody ought to tell Jim Robinson that BHO and his cabal are the real enemy, not Mitt. Sheesh, an outside observer looking at us now is probably getting the impression that Republicans eat their own. And as for Mitt Romney being a Mormon, well, I’m more concerned about Harry Reid’s Mormon faith. Does he HAVE any?

Four replies have appeared since then, and only one agrees with me. The others just said we ought to do whatever we can to make Mitt Romney unelectable. I guess I’m going to take a timeout from Free Republic. Hopefully the Freepers will be acting more sensibly when I return. ’Bye, see you guys next year.

Whatever...if you want to read the thread read the thread....I am not interested in rehashing the past any further.

I am not the only one who said it anout that thread, I am just the one you choose to attack.

Looks like the RINO sympathizers have their catch phrase. How many times have certain freepers said this exact same thing, especially when talking about McCain, Romney and Huck?

Won't work this time, though. No matter how pouty-faced and indignant they become.

The memories are still fresh.

"The last thing we need in power right now is a Rino playing tweaking games with the globalist pinkos the Democrats have put in power and the media. We need a conservative."

Exactly!

If you are so curious go read the thread. It did happen but if you think I am going to go back and read the thread so I have names to satisy you, forget it.

I suspect that you (and the rest making the claim) know that you couldn't back up the claim about the people getting zotted just for disagreeing, but you're going to try to save face by refusing to look.

So I guess its kinda like the global warming people making their claims, and if they're questioned on it, they just say "the science is settled".

Not at all. The Bug Zapper Thread is there, most of us just don't happen to have the link readily available. You should do your own homework.

Ah, yeah. A guy HeartlandOfAmerica was saying that if you didn’t keep lockstep here you’d get tossed. I told him that I had heard the same thing about FR on other sites and that I had witnessed people get the zot for reasons I couldn’t determine.

I told him of a couple sites where he could argue all day long and they were pretty cool about it. I suggested that he use this place as a news source and to debate at a safer site. That way he could enjoy both without having the damocles zot hanging over him. Chills the debate, see? I thought that was pretty harmless, but even then I expected the zot(based on the info I had gathered thus far).

So tell me... “You post like that...you can expect replies questioning your reasoning, your opinion, your whatever.”

Post like what? Hahah! I’ve had at least 3 idiots jump me here for why, I don’t know. (To be fair, that xena was cool. Answered my question and set me straight re: policy here).

Looks like I got some bad info, You people don’t discourage argument. You just attack other conservatives for no reason.

Classy.

“Like a pragmatic Cap and Trade bill? Like a pragmatic amnesty bill? Like a pragmatic Obamacare bill? Don’t you think there are times to draw a line in the sand?”

See 373 for my “go no go gauge” remark, and yes there are some hills you have to be prepared to die on, figuratively... I hope.

As your examples here they are:

1. Cap And Trade - BS it should die.

2. Amenesty is BS - but a guess worker program to cover the work force that the illegals are currently performing would be pragmatic. They would all have to be documented, we don’t need their criminals, nor their deseases, and most of all we don’t need them involved in national politics.

3. Obamacare - see my post to Jim Robinson for that one.

I don’t particularly care. I don’t believe the claim because it was not proven. That’s where it ends, as far as I’m concerned.

I’m supporting the notion that politicians can and should change their positions based on the “will” of the people they propose to support.

Really? I wouldn't support that in a minute. It's not a heart change, it's a change for votes! Truly Romney style! And you support that deception - at least, you owned up to it.

“...I don’t think Mitt has ever killed a fly much less a baby...”

His socialized medicine is already denying a lot of people health care as the State has had to “progress” to rationing and ripping off hospitals in reimbursements. Romney is a kook. He’s a left wing extremist and we don’t need a lefty to replace the lefty.

I am not the only one who said it anout that thread, I am just the one you choose to attack.

Just because there are a number of people willing to reinvent history, doesn't change reality.

You made the claim. Others have supported you on that claim. However, up to this point, nobody has produced any evidence to show that you aren't just making up something that never happened.

If it actually DID happen, I'd think that somebody could come up with some examples.

By the way, saying that I'm "attacking" you by asking you to back up your claims is even more like the global warming people's tactics.

“...Romneycare was an attempt to avoid socialized medicine...”

A little Rino tweaking to make the socialism go down easier?
No thanks.

Yep. It happens. What’s really funny is seeing these guys go into their anticipatory ‘Zot’ routine, complete with the funny graphics. Hilarious!

"I’ve wondered how many people who call Romney a “baby-killer” because he supported abortion also have people in their family who support abortion, and if they call them “baby-killers” at Thanksgiving.

Abortion is murder. Abortion doctors are baby-killers. Women who allow doctors to abort their babies support baby-killers.

People who never have an abortion, but who express the opinion that women have a choice, are wrong-headed, but are not killing babies. If they aren’t in a position to change the law, it’s hard to see the point in claiming they are murderers.

I think language suffers when it is overwrought. If the guy at the desk next to you who says women have a right to choose is a “baby-killer”, what do we call the person who actually kills the baby?

Am I supposed to beat up my co-worker for murder?"

=================================================

In the US someone can be convicted of murder without ever having actually killed anyone, but because they were "in on it" they are guilty of conspiracy to commit murder.

I submit that all those who keep this sin legal are just as guilty as those who are direct participants.

We can have the greatest candidate in the world, but a great candidate who loses by 20 points...STILL LOST.

You have your principles, I’d rather have my country.

Its kind of a double edged sword. Too strict and we lose the election. Too loose and we elect someone nearly as bad.

Bush sounded like a great conservative, and on many issues he was. But he also gave us Campaign Finance Reform, No Child Left Behind, Prescription Drug Entitlement, the TARP bailout, and he nearly doubled the debt in his 8 years.

And there is something to be said for McCain possibly being worse than Obama. Too many vote on party, not principle, and I think Cap and Trade (and others) would pass far easier under McCain because of all the Republicans who would go along because a GOP President proposed it. We saw that several times with Bush.

>>>>> "B/S. RomneyCare is big government forcing its will on a formerly free people. It's anti-American, anti-free-markets, anti-Liberty and unconstitutional. Listen to the Reagan tape.

RomneyCare is the socialism he's talking about. RomneyCare = ObamaCare. No difference.

Government is not the solution, it IS the problem!!

Free Republic will not support gun grabbing, abortionist, gay rights pushing, big government socialist RINOS!!

In fact we will actively campaign AGAINST them!!

Take a freaking hike if you don't like it." <<<<<

How many times have you stated this and similar sentiments today?

I'm certain that I've read these kind of postings from you several DOZENS of times over the past few days.

It's just incredibly sad to watch all this.

Just look at all the mittbots & mittites & mittwhits who are clining so bitterly to their fav RINO.

It's sad.

You gotta feel real sorry for people who have NO reading comprehension and who are downright RUDE, and have been for years.

If someone were to describe this scene to me, I wouldn't believe it, as I wouldn't believe it possible that so many NON-readers would join a political website to start with.

People making unfounded claims is a problem for me. If the leader of some radical black organization makes claims that Republicans are systematically killing blacks, I don't accept it as fact without seeing some proof. Its not good enough for them to just say "Go do your homework. Prove me wrong."

The claim of people getting banned for just expressing their opinions certainly doesn't rise to that level, but the claim was made for a reason, and I don't think it should just be accepted as fact without question.
