As reported here by ABC News (online), Mitt Romney "...doesn't plan to make any endorsement at all" regarding the contentious NY23 Congressional race.
What does this say about Mitt? When balanced against Sarah Palin's political courage, it seems telling. Sarah is a political alpha, a leader for the future. Mitt, in spite of his genuine conservatism and mastery of issues, is almost certainly not.
You have to look no further to see why conservatives are so passionate about their support for Palin. Regardless of the arguable notion that she has yet to fully mature, she commands a degree of respect that eludes all others currently on the conservative scene. The reason? She is unwilling (and perhaps unable) to couch her views in muted, plausibly deniable tones. Regardless of the outcome of NY23, Palin wins. She drives debate. She leads. She is "out there" when and where others fear to tread.
Note that Huckabee and Pence remain on the sidelines where NY23 is concerned.
Political courage is interesting to witness, perhaps because it's so rare.

I am not surprised about Mittens but Mike Pence is disappointing. I thought of Pence as the type of conservative who would mount a 4-year campaign for President with an RV with its own radio studio going from city to city.
I guess I was wrong. I guess he has been drinking that DC water too long.
So Romney must be for Owen.

Mitt is a manager. He has no ideas of his own and does not know how to evaluate others’ ideas except how to implement them like health care in Massachusetts and when he takes to managing an impossible scheme, well, he fails with it more nicely than others would or gets out from under befpre they are too pbviously failures. A couple of Romneys might be good for a Republican Party in power and govering so long as it is a party with Conservative ideas and has a comfortable majority and no Romneys have actual leadership positions.
He will never be a Republican nominee and he will never be a god on planet Kolob.

Mitt might be useful working for Sarah, but he isn’t ready for prime time on his own.

If he endorses Hoffman, and Hoffman loses, it messes up his reputation with the other RINOs and DIABLOs, and will not reassure the conservatives.
If he endorses Pelosi Scozzafava, he has sunk himself with the conservatives whether she wins or not; and gains nothing with the other RINOs. It is "only what was expected."

Mitt, allow me to save you a lot of time, money, bother and frustration, here's the tough love brother, you'll never be elected President.
This is from someone, who ought to be your natural consistuency, a pro-free enterprise person. I was sympathetic to your campaign, when you started, as time went on, I turned against you. If you can't get my vote, that doesn't leave too many votes left for you to get.
Mitt, you can still make a huge contribution to America with a commission, like the Grace Commission, to get the Federal Government out of the way of the economy.

Romney’s game plan for winning the nomination is to be all things to all people. He wants the base to see him as a conservative, the RINOs to see him as a moderate, and the nonideological types to see him as a competent manager.
He couldn’t endorse anyone in this race because whatever he did would undercut one part of that game plan.
I wonder which candidate he actually prefers, Scozzafava or Hoffman. All we know for sure is that he’s chosen expedience over principle.
If there’s any justice in the world, a lot of the RINOs will be ticked off at him for not endorsing Scozzafava.

And the answer to that was for him to get in front of Palin and endorse Hoffman first. But that would be too visionary for the Mittster.
